Recieving the new magnacore wires and ngk bpr6es today I waited a few hours for the engine to cool down and set to replacing them. Starting with number 4 and working individually to not get the wires crossed up, I proceed to take out the old plug and put in the new one, but the new wire boot just won't fit properly onto the top of the metal ring, not the actual plug. It's the longest size out of the 4 wires that came (same length as the original wire), and I'm pretty sure the plug is in all the way. It just won't clamp down right on top of it. Am I doing something wrong?

P.S. Never try to start your car in this condition. I watched in horror as the plug/wire FLEW out like a rabid squirrel acquiring a new Rocketteer jetpack. (And almost hit my watching brother in the face, which gave comic relief for an otherwise sad night)

Boot won't clamp down righ on the plug or sit properly on the ring of the valve cover spark plug hole edge?

Er sorry, I should have clarified that. The boot clamps down fine on the plug itself, it's just the inner ring under the valve cover, it won't push down into it.
