Kyle,

Would you believe she's now burping at .028 with 25 psi? This DIS is a wasted hunk of space. I'll likely drop the gap down to .026 just to see if it stops. I know the plugs are a bit loaded from all the leaded I run and I'm even thinking of trying the non-projected tip plugs hakcenter was talking about (BR7ES) to see if I can squelch some knock until we do WI.

Sorry I didn't get a chance to talk at the autox, but I had Melissa with me and while I would have hung out in the rain, she wasn't game and I couldn't blame her. Looking forward to spending MUCH more time with you once you get to Auburn. If you bring the boost leak tester, I'll bring the beer!

Talk soon!

Andy

The boost leak tester is there in Auburn, hell head over to my dad's house and borrow it. He's got a big black 1996 F 150 sitting outside the house, gray house. He's home after 7pm and most of the weekend.

Ok guys heres my deal... I have a FP B28 @ 19 psi, HKS 264/272 cams, and I'm running a Zex wet 75 shot. I have been getting a high end mis, and or stutter problem that I'm trying to diagnose. Also, sometimes when I shift hard into 3rd it feels like it falls right on it's face for a millisecond and then flat out hauls ass. What or whitch plug do you guys suggest or recommend I try with my set up? I'm currently running the BPR7ES plugs gapped at .28. My plug wires are pretty much brand new, maybe a year old and they are Accel's. I'm wondering if I should go with the 8's, but I'm not constantly spraying a 75 shot everywhere I go, so I don't think they would ever get to there proper operating temp and then start fouling. Thanks for any advice or help. :)

Andy, if you can't find the plugs at your local auto parts monger, check with Motorcycle PWC shops. The non projected plugs are O.E. on my SeaDoo GSXL.

Now that'll work! Thanks for the tip.

Kyle,

That's no fun. When you get a chance to come up here, we'll hang out, drink a few and THEN boost leak test. I think that sounds better.

Cheers,

Andy

Well I'm in town this Sunday, but I'm celebrating me and my father's b-days so I'll be busy all night. Then it's back down to the Fort to slave away at work. There is another autox at Kruse on the 16th, hopefully this one will stay dry.

Try BR7ES's and if it continues switch to BPR8ES's
Cool thanks. I will try and get some tomorrow. I'm assuming there about $10 bucks a set too. Do you think I should still stay with the gap at .28 or lower it to .26 while on the BR7ES plugs. Thanks!

Stay with the same gap first. Always try new plugs at the recommended .028 and then step down if needed. 19psi shouldn't be blowing out that gap. I would also look into fresh wires. Some will go bad in a year, so you may want to replace them to be sure they aren't causing your misfire issue.

Thanks Andy for the advice I really appreciate it. I've already bought a new set of plugs so if that doesn't work I will then check my wires like you recommended. Thanks again. :thumb:

I just pulled my Spark Plugs from my 97GST. It Idles like crap, and when i give it gas the RPM's die down then start to go up, and Engine Missfires. Removed the spark plugs and all were covered with heavy carbon deposits, and 1 an 4 had big white spots. 3 had alittle oil on it. What could be the cause of this?

Good call Doug. Through those piece of junks in the trash and buy a set BPR7ES's for it. Do not run Platinum in turbo cars.

make that NGK BPR6ES plugs. 7's are for higher boost applications. i run 6's in my car and they work great. before i ran denso iridium's. 60 dollar set of plugs now paper weights. plugs which are white indicate an engine burning to hot. only the electrode is white though. can't really tell from the pics but it looks close to normal. oil on plugs could come from many places. possibly your valve seals or guides could be leaking into your combustion chamber. also you could have some blow by allowing lubricant from your crankcase to enter you cylinder. i don't think you need to worry about these problems however, the blackness on your plug tips appears to be carbon, caused by a rich burning air fuel charge. weak spark won't completely ignite all of your air fuel mixture allowing to formation of carbon.

Platinums are a big no-no on our cars. I ran platinum plugs once before I knew that. They were on sale, so I thought "Why not?" Car ran horribly, got terrible gas mileage, and had no power. Switched to regular NGK's on the advice of a fellow DSM'er and car ran fine after that.

yes no platinums they'll burn a hole in your piston to hot. also bpr6es are a more stock plug but if you have started tunning at all i would recommend bpr7es because of the fact they are a stage colder plug you will have less detonation which means less knock also they run a stage colder due to the fact of moreboost leads to more heat and the best thing to do is to run a colder plug to make up for the difference plus the colder plug will make you performance engine last longer other wise you can tighten up the gap a Little and that is supposed to help cool a plug down to but i would just go with the cooler plugs i think the NGK stock # for the bpr7es is 2023 and they are only like $1.65 a piece id go with them.
but that is just my 2 cents good luck on your fix.

Hmm, you shouldn't have had any problems with the Iridiums. I had a set and they worked great. They're definitely not like platinums.

weird. my car bogged under even stock boost levels while running iridiums. don't know why. i took me forever to figure out it was the plugs. switched to a cheap set of ngk 6's and my car runs awesome now. copper cores and boost compliment each other i guess.

Sorry wasn't paying attention that his car was stock. 6's would be better. Personally I run B7ES's everyday.

Ok i switched to the NGK Bp's an still the same problem. Engine idles like crap, and still the same carbon build up, and hot spots on the 1 an 4. If there is someone that is willing to let me send them a video of what the car does i think i would be easier to figure out the problem. When crunk Vac is at 6, and Putts insted of purring. Sometime the checkengine light will come on and car shuts off.
Whenever it goes the Code is P1104 Unknown Power Train DCT Main Factory And Control Fuel and Air Metering. but it doesnt happen all the time. need help bad.

I did a Compression test on all 4 cyl. and they all read 175. MAybe there is a Boost leak that i dont know about? Maft is stock and connected, no wires or anything showing from it.I do have the 3"GM Maf, but have not installed it yet since i dont know whats up with the engine. I am in a lose lose sit. right now.. LOL Do you think towing the car to a shop to get a leakdown test done will help me resolve the problem?

platinum.. hmmmm nice~
well, i ones had does when i got the car.
changed it right away from missfire a week later.
now i am running denso copper core.
Runs great. no miss or hesitation.
don't use platinum. just use copper is you are in budget.
but i always thought iridium is good for turbo?

I think we might have the same problem. Whenever I start my car theres like a 50/50 chance it will fun fine or just totally bog out on me and all of the previously mentioned symptoms. Im going to go check my fuel injectors and if thats not the problem Im not going to know what to do.
