can someone please help me ? im new here..and to the whole dsm scene..im curious..im trying to fix up my 96' gst..someone please help me with this question..does it really matter what muffler i get..? for example does it matter if i go spend $600+ on some big name brand like APEXi..or can i make it with a normal aftermarket muffler ?..i found some mufflers on ebay that say that theyre replicas of the N1 exhuast from APEXi..or..replicas of other brands..they look just like the more expensive brands..but do they work the same ?..i know freeing up the exhuast helps..my car has the resonator removed as well as the catalytic convertor and is replaced with a 2.5'' straight pipe..all i have is the factory downpipe and the stock muffler ? i would think it would be the same idea if i just bought the muffler as a catback exhuast...anywho can someone help me with this issue ??

Most any straight-through muffler will perform the same way. The muffler is not the most restrictive piece in the exhaust tract. The catalytic convertor fills that position. Changing just the muffler will give you little to no performance gain. Installing a catback exhaust is definately the way to go. Name brand is not very important, just look for a 3" or 2.5". :thumb:

You will receive a better response if you form complete sentences and use capital letters when necessary. :shhh:

ok..im confused now..so any straight pipe muffler will do...yet the catback is the way to go ? so which one will give me more power ? isnt the catback the same crap anyway ? i would think it would be the same, only difference is that the catback is a bolt on.

im on a budget here,i just want to make the car go faster.Do I have to use a catback ? Will the car still perform with just the muffler? muffler isnt my only mod.I'm also doing the other supporting mods as well.
