Yeah, I searched, here, tuners, vfaq (which is so hit and miss broken it's ridiculous now), google, etc. I did some datalogging and I need to know what numbers are acceptable/good for intake air temp, coolant temp, manifold pressure, and timing advance on a 95 TSi AWD.

I haven't been able to find this data anywhere. My logs showed IATs of ~105*, coolant temps of ~220, and timing advance in excess of 30. MDP read 0.

I've also noticed my engine bay doesn't cool down until 10+ hours after shutting it down. If I start my car 6 hours after shutting it down it'll register 220* instantly (ambient temps 80ish).

  1. Your IAT's your seeing in your logs is not the temperature of the air going into the motor, its the temperature of the air coming in through your MAF.
  2. Coolant temps of 220* are WAY WAY WAY too hot, get a 50/50 mix in there and make sure you fans are kicking on. If your coolant temps are still creeping up past 206* replace your t-stat and flush your coolant system.
  3. Timing advance while your under normal cruise conditions (closed loop) will be around 30*, its WOT you'll want to pay attention to timing advance.
  4. Your MDP IS NOT a pressure sensor, its specifically used for EGR valve operations or in other words emissions. The only way you can log boost accurately is by wiring in a MAP sensor.

@gofer - Right now I'm using ElmScan5 with OBDWiz, the problem is it can only read 2-4 times per second, so unless I'm only logging one thing at a time I can't get a good look at anything closely. It did come in handy to fix my TPS, ECMlink is forthcoming.

I understand the IAT is taken before the IC, I was still curious about it. The coolant in there looks super clean, like it was just put in, I wonder if the previous owner (I've owned it for about 2 weeks now) did 100% antifreeze or something similar.. I won't be able to drain it until I can get something under it to collect the coolant, I'm not sure if I can do that without my jack off the top of my head. If that's the issue, what about the engine bay staying at op temp for hours? As it stands if I want to work on the car at all I can't drive it that day.

When I get a day where I don't feel like touching anything I'll run a straight timing log and see what I get, thanks for the tip.
