So I am back with some cheap fixes for nerve racking problems with my 95 AWD Talon.
I had this car parked in front of my house one evening and looked out to see my brake lights on. My first reaction was to grab some sort of firearm because someone was messing with the car! Then I remembered it was a piece of shit DSM and no one wanted anything out of it haha. I investigate it and find out that there is a small plastic "button" that is pressed into a hole that is on the brake lever. I cursed DSM and everything Mitsubishi and parked the car behind the house as punishment. Well a week later it drained the battery down (duh on my part). So this would have to be fixed for safety/battery purposes.
Possible fixes:
-Buy new part from stealership
This was not going to happen because I am poor and cannot wait a week for a stupid piece of plastic!
-JB Weld
This would have worked but then I got to thinking about why the piece was plastic to begin with. I came to the conclusion that it was because the brake lever had thrust play in it therefore the plastic button might wear down after years of use constantly grinding against something of that sort
-Make my own "plastic button"
This is what I did. By far not the easiest but it was absolutely free to me and I had the equipment to do it. I am very picky when it comes to my fixes and want them to last for many years as I have it set in my mind that I will live with this DSM.
So here is what I did:
I had this scrap plastic laying around from another project so I turned it down to 0.223"
I then machined a step into it (eyballed this measurement as it was not as important)
Parted it with cutoff tool and VIOLA!!!
I found this measurement to give a nice and snug press fit. You can even glue it in if you wish.
I know what you might be thinking.."Waaaay to overcomplicated".. It may be but I am poor white trash and this was free. It took me all of 30 mins from start to finish while taking crappy pics with my cell phone.
I hope this might help someone!
