The best thing you can do is lots of research. Understand that when making power, it's not about slapping parts on and going fast. Turbo DSM's respond more to tuning than anything else. Do some web searches on turbo theory and start learning some of the jargon relative to air/fuel ratios, timing and anything else pertaining to forced induction.

Also consider what your goals are. If you want a streetable 12 second car, this will entail a different set of variables than an autocrosser. A great place to get started is the tuning guide we have on the site since it will get you headed in the right direction. An important thing to remember is that you want to buy parts once, so if you think you'll need to step up the horsepower later, buy the correct supporting mods now and you'll still have room to grow.

We have a great tuning guide on the site and this should be more than enough to get you started. Also, do keyword searches and learn everything that you can meet your goals with a minimum of headaches. You can find it here:

The absolute MOST important thing you can do at this point is to make sure the car is in excellent mechanical order. If you haven't already done so, get the basic maintenance done first (timing belt, water pump, balance shaft belt and tensioners) and make sure that your compression is up to snuff.

Good luck and let us know if you need a hand.
