So i was driving down the highway and all of the sudden i shifted and my car died.

It started right back up afterwards. But then my car was really really slow and when I would shift at a higher rpm then 3000 a bunch of smoke would come out of my exhaust.

I have a 95 gsx I just droped a new karking motor in my car about 3000 miles ago.

Has anyone else had this problem or know what it is.

Someone told me it might be my turbo is blown. could this be a possiablitily.

White smoke tends to be coolant, though in one certain case that I know of, it can be oil.

That said, check your turbo for shaft play. Pull off the intake pipe, stick your fingers in the compressor inlet and grab the nut of the compressor wheel. Try to wiggle it up and down, side to side, in and out. If it wiggles in any one of those directions, your turbo is most likely failing.

Do a compression test just to be sure. And while the intake hose is off, might as well do a boost leak check.

Ill try that. But the reason i think it might be the turbo is because when i floor it it doesnt go anywhere. And the turbo guage only will go to about 1/4 to 1/2 of the guage when normaly it will go all the way to the top.

If it is the coolant. Where is the coolant leaking from.

If your turbo isn't boosting to where it normally does + the car makes lots of smoke + the smoke is white = failing turbo most of the time. Pull off the lower intercooler pipe and look for a pool of oil in it. Watch your shoes when you do this, it tends to splooge out.

In the case of the smoke, it's actually the oil burning, not the coolant. That's why I mentioned that there's one case I know of where oil burns white/gray instead of its usual bluish color.

It also sounds like you're looking at the stock boost gauge. Don't rely on it, because it's only ECU based. If it's white smoke it sounds like blow by caused by a blown turbo. Do a compression test and check for oil in the coolant and coolant in the oil. If everything checks out there, then it's time to pull your manifold off and examine the turbo.

So its defintily the turbo.

which is going to be the cheapest turbo for me to put in a 18g 16g or Big t28.

I wont be doing it so the price has to include labor, turbo and install kit.

The T28 won't require an install kit, but tends to be more expensive than a 16g. The install kit + 16g would be about the same price as a T28, more or less. Some people have luck cobbling together their own install kit, but if you're having a shop or dealership do it, they probably won't have that option.

Any reason you're not doing this yourself?

I dont have very many tools. and both of my parents park in the guarge. and i work 7 days a week from 10-8:30 so it doesnt leave me very much time to do it.
