here in california, all the stand alone engine management units are not smog legal:sosad:. has anyone here been able to get away with it? and if so how?

thanks, Hunter :dsm:

So the DSMlink basically is the best to go with in california then? What about the AEM EMS, it just plugs in and uses all the factory sensors. Is DSM link basically the same or does it replace everything? and performance wise, do you have a preference?

EDIT: maybe this should go to the noobie forum, i just thought since it could be usefull to everyone here in the socal region that i should ask it here.

Since I don't live in California you'll have to tell me. The 2G DSMLink look to the testers as an original factory OBDII ECU when they try to plug in. I have no idea if the AEM supports OBDII but clearly it doesn't look like a factory ECU.

The EMS has quite a bit more flexability but with that comes a lot of ways for you to shoot yourself in the foot. DSMLink is a factory ECU that allows you to change the important tuning parameters on the fly. It will fire the car up out of the box.

alright, so with the AEM EMS you have to tune your car after installing it, but it cant just be ran on the car from the box, and the DSMlink can. i think that DSMlink would be best for my application. i dont need so much flexibility with the tuning.

Thanks Steve, and bfdahl, for the help.
