Smog.....I need it

I have one, but I'll only give it to you if you promise to stop using so many god damn exclamation points in your posts.

seriously though, I *think* I have one or two and am currently away from the bay area so I couldn't get it to you until either thanks giving or sometime around christmas. Did your smog notification say you had to go to a test only or you could smog anywhere? The top of the notification will say in big letters test only if you have to test at a test only station, otherwise you can smog anywhere.

RICHIE

please PM me about said koreans. I'm kindof in a "the state of california is exceptionally ### and refuses to smog my car" situation.

its hard to find one now, if you do, itll cost a arm and both legs.

been gone a while but i need a damn smog too!!! someone who isnt trippin off of visuals but my car will pass kind of a place.

you and me both buddy,... except for me its that whole, my car passes the sniffer, has all the working smog equipment, its just the wrong motor in there...

:banghead:

california is such a retarded state when you can't legally put a motor in your car because you had to put a different transmission on it. Those big block v8 guys get away with whatever they want but when it comes to us 4 cylinder guys were screwed.

if you get someone cool they won't look too far into the visual aspect, as long as all the smog stuff is still there. Technically ANY aftermarket part needs to have a CARB E.O. number on it to be legal. Also, you cannot have a high flow cat, it needs to be a stock one, however most techs won't crawl on the ground to check, especially on a lowered car where they won't be able to see anyway. A check engine light is an automatic fail and will only illuminate if a problem is detected which will affect emissions, so even if you did hide it by removing the bulb, chances are you will still fail the sniffer. If you have a 96+ you'll need a scan tool to check the check engine code but I'm pretty sure you can have it scanned for free at an autozone/pep boys type place. Also some shops will scan it for free.

Well hopefully the guy at the smog shop stopped the test like your saying cus if he didn't your car is now considered a gross polluter and you can't have your car smoged at any shop other that a "smog only" or gold star shield".

And no you cannot go to any autoparts store in california and get your car scanned for a CEL. It is illegal in california for an autoparts store to provide that service, trust me Know cus I work there. And as far as I know a mechanics shop will not do a CEL scan for free.

Hmm, really? I thought at least they could give you a scan tool as a rental so you could scan it yourself. But I know there are some shops that will scan it for free. I work as a tech at Big O Tires and if a car comes in for other work and we see a CEL we'll scan it for free as part of our inspection. Or if the customer requests it we can do it also. That's about where it stops though as we don't really do diagnostics, unless it's something obvious like for example it threw a code for the mass air flow sensor and there is a huge rip in the intake pipe or something.

You could also try a school like a community college that has an auto program or a wyotech type place. just explain to the teacher your car failed smog and has a check engine light on, the teacher might arrange for you to come back during a class time and have the students diagnose it for you.

Yup, the tech stopped the test at no charge. Cel only came on during the test and then went away as i was driving back home (WTF). My DSM has a mind of its own.

The code will still be stored in memory even if the light went out on it's own.

Well after reading all the posts on here, im feeling better about getting my car smogged.

I know it will pass the idle part, but it wont pass the visual for sure!

Anybody willing to share their station of choice? The place I went to two years ago isn't willing to do it anymore (can't really blame them); the car passes emissions like a champ, but it has a few visible mods under the hood and there's a bit of smoke out the tailpipe.

Had problems passing smog because the computer wouldn't reset. Finally figured out there were leaks from the aftermarket colored rubber hoses. I used zip ties to tighten up the ends. Computer reset and I passed smog.

hey whats up I got a guy been going to for years in redwood city I can fin out the name of the shop he is cool about the mods as long as the emission parts are there. I will post when I can in the morning
