I need to smog my 98 gst. If you know anyone who can help a fellow DSMer make this happen, please PM me. I'm in the East Bay Area but, I'm willing to travel nearly anywhere. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions on my setup and I'll happily answer them. Thanks yall.
 
damn it's all about post counts!?? Ok, I guess I'll just have to wait for a bay area DSM meet. Jay thanks for the PM but I'm looking for something local!! I'm located in Union City CA.. If any one can help, feel free to PM me!

so here's my mods.. i was told by the owner that i have to put back the original parts and plus i got the engine check light on, which i was told that it will not pass!!

BTW i dont have the original parts

Megan turbo back exhaust, TD05 turbo, Big FMIC, Injen intake system, and headers..i changed my ECU back to stock which set me back 500.00...grr!! pulled out the 255lph pump and turned that back to stock (had some stuttering issues and still do, fuel cut possibly) as of right now my car is just a paper weight!!

I still have stuttering issues.... which i was told is common among DSMs.
 
I've passed with way worse than that.. The stock turbo is TD05.. Teh fuel pump has no bearing either.. ECU back to stock? That one doesnt make sense.. As far as the "header" goes which one was it? The FMIC is perfectly legal in most cases as well..

I passed with a larger turbo, cams, etc etc.. Tuned with a GM Maft and thats it. 3" buschur exhaust with their high flow cat as well..
 
My bad!! I had to replace the things i could back to stock as the car was having issues! The individual that i had bought it from somewhat did a half assed job of modifying the car!!! But if you say that you passed with worse mods then mine, then i will just take it to a smog station and see what results i get. I was just going by what others were saying! And I do apologize for being limited in my knowledge about troubleshooting my DSM.

i'll keep you guys posted on whether or not my car passes smog!

Well if you have a Cel on, dont waste your time. That's an automatic no no..

Some places will also look for your emissions equipment. The Evap, Charcoal canister, etc.
 
you have a 95, it doesnt matter if you hvae a CEL, they wont do an OBDII test for you, just remove the BULB so they dont see it and your clear.

have you done a pretest to at least see what your numbers are.

if you dont have a cat dont even try fail automatically, also evap, charcoal canister, etc, then you wont pass either.
 
Ohh.. great!! So now i'm back at square 1 asking around for anyone who can help me smog this beast!

- Moved to Cali from Nebraska.. There were no smog test back in Nebraska, so this smog thing kinda puts a dapper on my needs. :(
 
Register your car in Nebraska. Well you can go to your local junk yards and find the things your missing and buy a CAT that just bolts on a high flow one would be nice. You can prob. Find something on Creigslist also. The junk yards here have a lot of DSM's mostly 1g some 2g.

Whats a Cel, Evap, and Charcoal canister? and what bulb do i have to take off??

the car is a 1996 GST.

I might just go out and buy a Highflow cat...tact that on and see where it gets me!

I have a giant cat that I used from a jeep. But in your case the CEL will be checked and found. If you don't mind paying some cash. You can find some Korean auto repair place and they will make sure that it will pass. Not saying it is the right thing to do, but they are ways.....

CEL= check engine light. evap is your fuel to atmosphere control. (egr or exhaust gas recek valve. all vac lines must be there ect) and your charcoal can is part of that too.. That is in your case (95-97) a can located under the batt that pressure from your gas tank bleeds into this so it does not vent to atmosphere.

Since you have a 96 you can not remove the bulb for your CEL. That is a bad idea anyway if you have a 95 (like me) because most of the time is has something to do with emissions anyway: and will more then likely give you some info on what's up with your car.

Some things to think about. It really depends on where you go. Test only centers seem to be more strict and by law can not help you fix anything. (not that you should have them touch your car anway) Most places with tell you to remove your BOV for a stock one. There is no law on this, only that it needs to be like OEM replacement. aka recerk not vent to atmosphere.

Replacing your fuel pump with a stock one my be a good idea if you have a lot of miles because its said that a 255 can over run the stock FPR and make you have a lot of hydro carbons.

There is a lot to smog but i know some things to make it pass if your engine is tired. and i have all the stock stuff if you want to toss it on and get her done here in my town. I would need to know ahead of time etc because it may take all day. Let me know if you need some help with this. I just did this for my friends 97gsx. that is reg as a gst.. LOL.

I dint know check only stations were strict.
I got a cat on there now.. my CEL is fixed (bad crankshaft sensor)
only thing I need to do is change the apexi bov to a stock one!
I'm spray painting the headers black too see if these smog techs notice anything, if not then I'll just have to change it back to stock.

If anyone is letting go their stock bov, then please let me know.
