What kind of sound difference could I plan to expect if I were to downgrade the huge Thermal R&D exhaust tip to something a little more practical? Maybe a couple inches smaller than the one it comes with. Any input/knowledge on the subject is greatly appreciated! :thumb:

A smaller tip will make a difference in sound and give a more "stealth" look.

You could just goto a muffler shop and have them weld a short piece of Stainless exhaust in lieu of the current tip. Polish it up.. done :thumb:

I had at one time thought about doing this with mine. That 5" tip is just TOO big. The problem is saw, though, was the actual pipe that comes out of the muffler. It's smaller than the tip, but not by much. From memory, it looks like it may be 4". So, I guess that's about as small as we could go. Because of the angle of the muffler and the way the tip comes straight out, we don't have much to work with there. I'm expecting that with a smaller tip the droning inside the cabin won't be so bad. Of course, with me being a hatchback, it's probably a bit worse inside my car. If you do it, let us know how it turns out.

Cut off the muffler and go with straight pipe with the RRE Dual chrome 2.5" tips. I have some that I was going to put on the car but decided not to and they are for sale in the classifieds along with a 3"in/3"out magnaflow muffler. I was going to go for the stealth look but got a good deal on a full exhaust.

I had this same idea, cause i wanted to go for the stealth look. So I was actually thinking about aquiring two stock gsx mufflers and running a dual muffler look with the 3"downpipe and cat back getting Y'd off into the two stock mufflers, one located on each side. I'm just a little skeptical on how much work would have to go into this when I already have a 3" downpipe back exhuast. Any ideas or tips ????? :thumb:

Wow nothing like adding unneeded and unwanted extra weight. Have you picked up a stock muffler?

Well obviously I am in it for the stealth look and im not trying to get pulled over by the san diego pd here for some bullshit about carb that, carb this, ohh is that paint carb legal, is that battery carb legal? so the extra weight is not a concern to me, so from a performance stand point what do you think about the that idea??

You could just gut out the stock muffler(s) and make your own straight thru pipe.By freeing up the flow you free up HP. My issue with the stock mufflers is 1. weight and 2. restriction of flow. Check under your car for ease of piping and second muffler location. You will have to custom weld up a Y pipe.

Add a resonator after your CAT to cut down on noise.

And the best performance upgrade MOVE THE #### OUT OF CALIFORNIA AND THERE LIBERAL PANTY WASTE LAWS but yeah what do I know.
