i have small pinsized rust spots on a few places on the 2g...what should i do to prevent it from spreading and to fix it?

FYI: we call rust "cancer"
it spreads and does not stop, the only way to get rid of it if it has gotten to a certain point is to cut it out and weld in a small replacement panel, if it is small and hasnt intruded into the body of the car too far past the paint you MIGHT be able to grind it out and paint
see your local body shop, i would not attempt to rid your car of rust by yourself

I know of 2 possible spots. In front of the shock towers and on the understide of the trunk hatch.

I have it on the drivers side tower. Grind it down to bare metal, put some POR 15 on there and repaint it. Minor spots are not a big deal, just keep an eye on them.

Grind down the affected area, acid etch it to remove any microscopic traces, use a rust inhibitor that is paintable, (I love POR 15 too!) and then paint it to match the car color. You may find, however, that the tiny rust spots are showing up because of rust that has started from behind the location and that you will need to do sheet metal replacement. Good luck.

Auto body shops treat metal with acid metal wash, a solution of Phosphoric Acid and alcohol before painting. This removes waxes and oils, removes slight amounts of rust that form between sand blasting and painting, and leaves a thin protective coat of iron phosphate. One commercial solution for this is DuPont Quick-Prep. Sherwin Williams has a similar product called Metal Prep.
