Has anyone thought about mounting your intercooler at an angle?

possible benefits;
better engine cooling
intercooler supplies more front downforce
lower center of gravity
appealing

i have thought of doing this on my car. Here is a rough sketch.

I think it looks absolutely ridiculous, there may be gains though.
Although i dont think theres enough room in our bumpers to even slant it. Mines cut up enough as it is.

Benifits are as you listed but to set this up with a stock bumper would be difficult. I am yet to see an appealing aftermarket bumper for 1 or 2gs my main interest is the cooling issue. A tube and fin intercooler opposed to bar and plate would help with cooling alot.

You would have to have a pretty small front mount to do it with the stock bumper. And even then it might be pretty tough.

Your idea seems kind of close to a v-mount intercooler. Where you mount the intercooler above the radiator at an angle. I believe its some what popular in the drifting scene.

I can think of a few reasons why it's not a good idea, and they have to do with the difference between air flowing through vs. over and effectively bypassing the intercooler. The fin design and function is meant to have air flowing through it, however, by changing the angle of attack the air is funneled over and past the intercooler and does not flow through the fins as much. Less air through the fins = less cooling.

that is correct. But fans would fix that quite a bit. 2 fans on the intercooler and 2 fans on the radiator sounds very efficiency. lots of dsms suffer from engine heat and think this can fix some of it..
