Just curios how fast a stock 89 gt-r is??? i have a buddy just bought one and is gettin it shipped here in 2-4 weeks.....he says nothin can touch it even stock.....i have did searches and all they say is 276hp.....thats all they are allowed to say.....how much hp do they actually have???? i will race him when he gets it but am curios as to how it will pan out....my best time to date is 13.1Et... i think he still will beat me......I am not bench racing cause i will do it when he gets it...i am just wonderin what to expect.....help me... :thumb:

Well you have two hopes going for you

A) He spent all his money on the car and cant afford any aftermarket parts
B) Dont try and do anything but straight line race him.

I drove a buddy's R34 when I was in japan and all I have to say is as much as I love DSM's I wouldn't think twice about trading mine for even a stock. The sad thing is the he picked his highly modded R34 for about 8k

I've driven several R32's, if the car is running right, and the motor is fresh, 12's is not an unreasonable expectation. Kinda makes me wish I lived in Canada now, so I could pick me up an 89 GT-R without having to pay Motorape (errr sorry, Motorex).

Good luck, but if he can drive, and he knows how to drive THAT particular car, it'll be very close. Those cars, unlike ours, don't mind a 7000rpm sidestep launch :thumb:

well my friend jus bought a 1997 r33 gtr and his 1/4 time stock was mid 13s.......his is tt....and im guessin(even tho this isnt true with all cars) the the earlier skylines were not as powerful as the newer gt-r's........but i jus drive dsm whut do i know LOL :talon: Monty :talon:

Earlier Skylines are actually known to be somewhat quicker than the later models. They weigh a little less, and a couple other minor differences.

Ok, thanx for the input.... :) sounds to me they are a really well built car, it will only be a straight line race anyway... I am not really into the twisties......Can't wait till he gets it...Well i am one up on him...he is only 19 and not a very good driver... :shhh: ..so even if the car is faster i think i will have the upper hand with the skill......Wish me luck :thumb:

Nope, you have to get them shipped from japan......This kid ordered it and it is goin on a long boat ride to get here.........Shipping must kill him....$$$$$$$..

Actually you would be surprized how cheap shipping is- I looked into shipping my Eclipse to South Africa(were I am from) and it would have only run me about $800-00 which I thought was pretty cheap.

I have an R33 GT-R VSPEC (i live in Dubai)

these things are so under-rated on paper cuz of the japanese rule

i can eat M3's and M5's for lunch.. even c5's... stock boost,

the launch of the car is insane.. especially with the Active Torque Transfer System

off the line.. not much holds with it...

after i got the Greddy Speed cut defencer... the car really became potent (i used to hit the 180 limiter in 3rd gear) this thing really can chop the highway in half... the needle did almost a full 360 on the gauge... (gauge only reads 180)

when u slam the single turbo Upgrade it's a real beast... the engines are real strong..

only weak points are the Bearings and the oil pump... swap those out.. and it'll be a monster...

the engine bay is Redicoulously cramped.. inorder to change the turbo gasket's the engine had to be pulled.. the routing of the FMIC pipings is a nightmare... and the car is VERY complex...

but Godzilla is Godzilla... :thumb:

276hp is the agreed output limit from all the major Japanese manufacturers. The good thing is that you're a few restrictive parts away from 350whp+. :thumb:

Actually, in most cases, those '276hp' cars dyno at over 300. Rate it lower on paper, who's gonna know the difference...especially when magazine times sell cars.
