I got 95gsx ive had for while and have good bit of knowledge with what im doing so i wouldnt say in a noob anymore just i havent had money to do anyting. But anyway my question is i found a big 16g turbo on craigslist which is what i want to go to but it is off a 91gsx.So i was woundering if i bought the 2g install kit if that turbo would work on a 95 since it was on a 91?thanks for the help

Yes, 16g's require an install kit for a 2g or you can piece one together yourself and save a little money.

I just did the same installation on my 95 GSX. I used the $175 Forced Performance installation kit. When I got it installed I found that the J pipe did not connect to my sidemount intercooler. Luckily my boy had a radiator hose that allowed me to rig it up and I actually have been able to drive around with it like that for a while waiting to finish installing a front mount.

In retrospect the Extreme psi install kit has an extra pipe that allows you to connect from the J pipe to the sidemount. The extreme psi kit is $25 more. I also noticed that CX racing who sell
Chinese turbos also sell an install kit for $99 that looks like it my be good. While I heed the warnings about ebay turbos I see the install kit as something that would be much harder to screw up. They also sell the banjo fittings for the coolant lines.

One pitfall I ran into is the J pipe didn't have a port for me to take my pressure source for the wastegate valve. Until I was able to drill and tap the J pipe I used the BOV vacuum/pressure source to run both, but this is not optimal for long term use.

Another pitfall I have run into is my J pipe fires towards the passenger side but the $300 VRSF front mount I'm installing requires a J pipe that discharges towards the drivers side. So now I need to buy another J pipe from VRSF and that is like $70. So what you are going to do with your intercooler is something to bear in mind.

One last problem I had was with reusing the turbo to manifold bolts. They came out alright but when I was installing the 16G I had to take one out that wasn't even fully tightened and it cross threaded and stripped coming out so did two of the other ones. So it is probably a good idea to order up some fresh bolts. They were $7.50 each at the dealer or the DSM graveyard has them for $5.75 plus shipping. DSM Graveyard - Your #1 Source for DSM Parts!

I know the install kit works but wouldn't it be easier to buy a front mount kit that comes with a j pipe then spend 200 bucks on the install kit?

The problem I ran into is I used a Forced Performance installation kit which was good but the J pipe discharges towards the passenger side of the car while the VRSF front mount I just bought needs a J pipe that discharges towards the drivers side and clears the front engine mount. So now I need to buy a new J pipe from VRSF that I should have ordered with their kit so I am losing some money on this glitch.

The installation kits are more than just a J pipe by the way. They also include new lines for the oil supply and oil return along with fresh crush washers. Another problem I have noticed is most if not all J pipes are not ported for the waste gate vacuum/pressure feed.

I was able to drill and tap my J pipe to accept the vacuum port fitting off of the stock t25 but I am not thrilled with that solution because now I have the bottom portion of the fitting extending through the J pipe into the airstream. If you know anything about laminar airflow you will understand that is like having a blockage in the J pipe caused by the obstruction itself combined with the deflected airflow. So the obstruction gets worse as the amount of air passing through the J pipe and getting deflected increases.

I would like to have a J pipe with a proper fitting that just has a small hole to allow pressure sensing with nothing inside the J pipe to interfere with or disturb the airflow within the J pipe. It is one of those areas where the vendors have let us down.

pretty sure the j pipe for the 16g is not supposed to connect straight to the sidemount you need either flex pipe or hard ic piping to connect the two

No it didn't connect straight to it.:cry: It was late at night :hmm:  and I got really lucky my boy had a customer engine sitting in the shop that had a radiator hose that was almost a perfect fit :hellyeah: so I could get my car running. I also had to remove a surge tank that was connected to the side mount to get it to fit.

That is why I suggested the extreme psi install kit because for $25 more it has an extra pipe to connect from the J pipe to the side mount. Or I think you can buy that side pipe from them but it is more if bought separately from an install kit.

I thought about just getting the CRX hard piping kit so I could hook it up and use my 1G BOV but that was $99.00 and for another $200 I could have a VRSF front mount that smokes it.

My advice would be to think about doing the turbo and front mount at the same time to avoid having to buy extra parts.
