So as a lot of you know, I've been replacing parts on my engine and finally got it back in. Just got it running today ,but it has issues like any rebuilt engine. It has white smoke coming out the exhaust and it's smoking from around the engine, like the smoke is leaking from between the block and head. I thought maybe I didn't torque the head on, but if that was the case, I'd be leaking coolant too, and I'm not. When I'm in the driver seat, it feels like there's more vibration than normal, but that could just be my prothane mounts. Anyone have ideas? A friend from work says I should just go take it on a 30 minute drive, but I'm still leafy of taking it out on the road like this. And my lower radiator hose still remains cold when the engine is warmed up, so that problem never went away. Need ideas for that too.

Always let the car run up till operating temps. Check for leaks, overheating, etc. Usually theres fluids of some type or chemicals stained on the exhaust parts that will burn off so smoking from there is normal.

If all that checks out then go for a ride.. like a 10min cruise. Come back and recheck things.

I got poly mounts on my DSM and my keys and sunroof shakes at idle.. thats normal.

White smoke is always burning coolant - either from blown head gasket (most likely) or crack in turbo coolant housing.

I replaced the head gasket with a brand new one, don't think that would be the issue.

Did you paint the block? The paint will cause quite a bit of smoke when the engine warms up the first time.

Nope, the only part I painted was the valve cover, but I didn't put it on. Got a non-painted one on right now.

I did let the car run at idle for 20 minutes, then turned it off while I checked things out, and wented all the smoke. Then ran it for another 20. Today I pretty much said screw it and drove it 15 miles while monitoring everything and stopped a couple times to check under the hood. All seems fine except for a few issues, which I've posted in a new thread. She drives great otherwise. :hellyeah:
