Should I cut my losses and buy another eclipse or build this one up?

Ill try to keep this short,

Bought a 97 gsx in Sept that had a shitty tranny rebuild in June (didnt polish it up or anything, tranny looks 10 years old).. so far it has 1000 miles on it. After figuring out they put the wrong pass side axle in it and replacing that, I drove it for a day and second started grinding. Trying to decide should I fix the minor stuff and sell it as is (looking for 3,200 obo for it) or keep it and put in a shep stage 1/ act2600/ 8lb flywheel. (I've got about $2500 to spend)

It also had a engine rebuild in 06 (as per to a reciept I have) but honestly I cant really tell if it was rebuilt or not, also looking to see is there a test I can run that'll confirm that? Compression/Leak down maybe?

Anyway, it has a Greddy RS BOV, a 14b, K&N cone, a shitty 3" exhaust job with a apexi n1 catback that I will have to redo ($300) and a Blitz Boost gauge(that doesn't have a light). Stock tranny, stock clutch, stock engine with 124,xxx on chassis. Has had about 6 owners with 2 of them buying them from auctions (Clean title)

Ive also made a list of everything the car needs replaced/fixed

Cruise Control
Fuel meter- Cant tell how much fuel is in the car
sunroof doesn't close
Master/Slave
Two tie rod ends
A new console
A cat
no interior lights
horn doesnt work
trunk struts

And a few other minor things like a fog light bulb replacement. Have a few pics in Profile if you guys want to see, really need a opinion here guys.

Thanks.

I would just keep it since you have 2500 to spend. You can rebuild the tranny and have enough money to do maintenance and get the car running right.

There's other things that could be causing it to grind in second as well such as the clutch not disengaging completely, and some other causes, it could also be the wrong tranny fluid was used. I'd say keep it, even another rebuild on the tranny wouldn't be $2,500. Small price to pay for an already clean and otherwise mechanically sound car. If you buy another, you never know what you're getting into.

I probably wouldn't buy another one unless there just happens to be a flawless one for sale near by. Clean DSM's are getting harder and harder to find. There's a good chance you could end up buying another one and have even more issues with it.

I'll buy it from you I got 3k to spend on another car for daily driving.. and I have a stage 4 tranny I'm gonna put in this talon anyways.. I like the 95s since they have the rear lsd already. So let me know what you decide.

I would keep it and fix it up, I think it would definitely be worth it.

as far as what else you need to fix:

Cruise Control -
You can get rid of this with a Non cruise control cable, if you really want it then keep it, but I have never wanted to just cruise forever in my talon, gsx = AWD, take as many turns as possible.:thumb:

sunroof doesn't close
Master/Slave - Make sure you get a OEM one or one from Mitsubishi, I got a crappy aftermarket one and I had to replace it in a few months. My clutched would squeak no matter what I did.

A new console - mitsubishigraveyard

A cat - I wouldn't worry about this until its time for inspection. I live in jersey where I need to get it inspected every 2 years, so when I do get inspected I remove my straight pipe and just pop in a cat with the same flanges.

trunk struts - These always go. Get some nice ones with a warranty

GOODLUCK!:)

Your asking price seems high (I know I overpayed for my DSM but it was relatively new at the time LOL) Most of the problems seem kinda normal maintenance stuff really, which any other DSM/car you'd get in that price range would have anyways. If you're not serisouly gonna keep this particular DSM don't invest in a shep trans and all the goodies involved with that as you'll never recoup that money when selling the car.

Just keep it, and fix it! The GSX is very hard to find now days, plus the body on it you said is straight. You'll regret it, if you get rid of it. Just show it some TLC and it you will reap the rewards. Ive been trying to find one, here in So Cal and its hard. Alot of them that I've seen are beat down, and the person or persons that owned them new nothing about maintenance on them.

Thanks for the opinion guys, you def gave me a bit more hope with this car.. was about rdy to put this shit up on Clist a couple days ago. Ill keep it a bit longer and see how things play out. Take it 2 my mech tomorrow and get a shep tranny rebuild quote.

But shit I figured 3200 wasnt bad considering the engine rebuild. Pretty much everything was replaced enginewise, $3,000 job... unless to say that doesn't mean much.

Thanks again everyone, much apperciated.

dsm make fun project swhen you have another car to drive.. man i wish my list was that short :(
