Hey....I am wanting to know how much hp the short ram intake will give me. Ive heard it doesn't really "kick in" till mid to high rpm's is that true ? What is your opinion on it vs. the cold air intake ? Also Ive heard it is good for 1/4 racing vs. street racing . Give me you'lls opinion on this I need some info. on it.........thanks

A rough estimate on the short ram is about 3hp.

You would feel the "kick" more with a CAI.

Remember, cold air is always better.

Short ram will give you less power than a CAI, so which one do you think would be better for the 1/4?

a cold air intake would be SO MUCH BETTER than a short ram intake, you will feel the power more plus it makes a cool noise cause u can hear the air bein sucked in hehehe.

BUT consider this: if you plan on getting a turbo in the future, getting a short ram intake would make sense, as the turbo will take hot air. So you have to consider what ure goals are and if you r gonna put a turbo kit on. I have a CAI, and i love it. Good luck!

Go CAI man. The colder the better!:D AEM makes a pretty good intake. Might want to check them out.

Don't listen to him, you will get more then 3 probaly 5-6. CAI is much better

I would like to see some dyno charts for your claim ON A 420a not on a civic engine.

I didn't say that was what they put down, I said it was a ROUGH estimate.

Many companies claim to get between 5-7, but in reality it comes down to around 3-4.

just installed k&n filtercharger #57-5500 on my 91 eclipse gs and its the bomb. accerleration notice on test run and top eng was finnnnnneee.

the short ram intake was on the car I might be buying And I didn't know how much hp it added to it..I'm buyin a 95 rs an it has borla tip and the AEM short ram intake....How much hp do you think it is puttin out right now ? It Also isn't the stock motor that comes with the rs's...i forgot to ask what motor it aws.....would any of you'll happen to know what it might be ? ...also the short ram intake has a cool sound to it to...I have a friend that has a cold air intake on his 2003 civic vtech and You can't even hear it......with that short ram I noticed a hissin or whistling sound...I thought it was cool......Just to let you know.....

Maybe 145 (crank), thats pushing it.

I highly doubt its anything other than the 420a.

When your friend was driving, was he flooring it? If not, its because it was at low RPM. When I had my 2gnt, I had a AEM V2 and there wasn't a hint of a CAI until it got passed 3.5k RPM.

If you're just looking for "cool" noises...stay with what you have.

I'm not lookni for cool noises...I hate when ppl get on herre and say I awnt blah blah for a noise......I was just sayin cuz the guy before said the CAI only has a certain noise.....I was the one drivng..I never floored I only let it go to 3500 to 4000 rpms before I shifted just to see waht it would do.....So if I floor it and don't shift till 6000 rpms i will notice a acceleration difference from the SRI?.......

Yes. You will feel a stronger pull in the acceleration, but not much since its only a short ram.

oh boy...

cai puts the filter outside of the engine bay which allows it to get more air and colder air. if you have a short ram it just keeps the filter inside the hot engine bay and collect hot air all day and doesnt nearly get as much air...because in a 95-96 2g non turbo eclipse, the air filter gets placed at the small cutout hole on the right side of your bumper so there is really no restriction at all when it comes to airflow....there is no competition....cold air is much better and will get u much better power gains.

I got an extra question. If I put in the V2 from AEM, and add the bypass valve (water scares the hell outta me, because around here...if it just sprinkles, the roads flood like a river). Would the bypass valve actually DECREASE the hp gains from the cai?

The AEM V2 is a one-piece design. So, you would have to do some fabrication to make it fit.

It disrupts the air flow, but the performance decrease may not be noticeable (sp?).

Ah man! You mean if I get the V2...I still gotta worry about deep water puddles? :(

Well...what's the HP gains of the V2 over the standard AEM cai? :/

1)Yes.

2) http://forums.2gnt.com/dcboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=4&topic_id=40756&mode=full

Don't know if the charts are still being hosted. (It was saved as my Fav. about a year ago)

There is a dyno comparison of the AEM V.1 & AEM V.2 (on the 420a).

In the beginning, it is stated that both intakes perform the same.

But, If you were to read all of the posts, there is a member who some-what proved that the AEM V2 accelerated faster than the V1. They both had the same peak but the V2 spread more hp & trq across the whole board.

To make it short, if you want every hp that you can get out of an all-motor setup..go with the V2.

There was another dyno chart for the V2 (on the 420a) on that website but the graphs are no longer hosted. The majority of the members saying that the trq was the most impressive.

I love how people can actually dyno test the effects cai intakes have on cars and PROVE that they give hp gains (if less than 10), and turbo owners still claim it's bullshit. LOL

What does everyone think about this for a stock 420a...

AEM 22-430P Short Ram Cold Air Intake Kit Polished - eBay (item 190475186334 end time Mar-01-11 17:57:40 PST)

I am looking for a CAI or SRI and even though I'm pretty sure that this is a SRI, I just want some suggestions because it says that it has cold air intake and I'm like wtf how is it both? Is this just another ebay jip? Help me out?
