Well I just talked to the machine shop building my motor currently and here is what said needs to be done.

Deck
Install piston rings
Hone
Polish Crank
Bearings

They gave me an estimate of $200 is that good? They also said that was a hookup price so just trying to see.

Also, they told me to get .030 size bearings? Is that the main bearings? I guess I don't need rod bearings I'm going to call tom. because I got the message when they were already closed.

My motor already had Wiesco pistons, eagle rods, ARP studs, and so on. Should I just get regular Wiesco rings or is there something else I could choose from? I plan to run a HX 40 with over 30 psi and E85.

If they only charging you $200, they aren't doing shit. I just had a shortblock done from the ground up. Swapped out stock rotating assembly for eagle/wiseco combo. Minus the cost of the rods/pistons/rings, total machine shop costs came out to $540. That's cleaning the block, pulling out old assembly, removing freeze plugs, dowel pins, etc. Hot tanking the block, installing new freeze plugs, bearings, dowel pins, cutting the deck for MLS gasket, boring, honing, and re-assembly of the block.

Hmmm... sounds a little steep if those 4 things are all they are doing

Well they already disassembled the block, cleaned it, and did a few more things. The only thing they said I needed was piston rings, bearings, and everything else looked good? Am I getting screwed?

$200 seems low, be sure that you are using a reputable machine shop. Use Wiseco rings on Wiseco pistons. .030 cut crank worries me a little, I normally don't like to see mote than a .010 cut crank for a performance build.

Run away. Quickly.

They're basically machining and assembling a shortblock. This should normally cost around $1000 plus parts. The fact that they quoted you $200 is scary.

You'll want to use Wiseco rings because they are designed to work with their pistons. Is this guy measuring the pistons and bores since you're reusing pistons? If he takes more than .001-.002" out when honing the block you're going to need an overbore and a new set of pistons. Is he plate honing the block or using a drill hone?

So I just called them back. But previously anyway I was charged $200 for disassembly, cleaning, and measuring everything on the short block plus the other $200 I'm going to be charged.

From what they said today. They said I needed .030 Rod/Main Bearings because the motor was previously ground to that. So when I order these I was looking I show .020 and .010 and STD size? Which one do I order? Or do I need to call?

From what I was told the piston and rods were good and they have measured everything as far as valve clearance on the motor. They are a good replicable shop though because I've seen many of there builds and the shop owner actually is sponsored by a place in Taiwan that flys him over there every year to help spec there dragsters that they build and is even in commercials over there, LOL.

So now you are up to $400 for thebill. Not THAT bad. But I still don't see where theyare charging you for actually assembling the bottom end.

Yes, I forgot about the other amount. I am gettin a deal cause I've known the owner for awhile. Just still confused on the .030 bearings?

You usually don't want a crank that has to be cut more than .010" over, especially in a high rpm motor like ours. Any GOOD machine shop that knows these motors will tell you that. Start looking for a virgin crank that just might need polishing. Cost ya $75 to polish up the crank.

Don't worry about a cut crank. 97% of the time cut cranks fail because of the person doing the grinding.
It's VERY hard to find a good crank grinder and it's VERY easy for just any machine shop employee to get on a crank grinder and really mess one up because they don't know how to correctly do it. There are also advantages to properly ground cranks that 99% of people don't realize.
For what it's worth, I have a BJ's knife edged crank that came from BJ's liquidation of shep engine parts when he closed up shop, and it's .030M/.040R

Here are your bearings:

Are these the right ones. I was actually told I need rod and main .030 oversize? I see those saying undersized.

I was also told I need 3.3626 piston rings. I did the conversion and this is like 85.41004 mm. So does this mean I need 85.5 mm rings?

Another question, LOL. I was told my pistons had nothing saying what kind they were but I was told they were forged but had these numbers.
6597M855 and 9772L I think they are Wiesco's but not sure???

I agree, seems fairly cheap. My bill for machining/assembling my shortblock was $1200.

Your crank is cut a lot, It would be a good idea to find another uncut crank and use that.

No, 3.3626 is wrong. +.020" is 3.366. The numbers you gave are for Wiseco pistons.
