First, this is just a crazy idea and i dont wanna be flamed, thank you.

Ok, what would happen if I hooked the blower end of a shop vac up to the air intake and turned it on while the car was running? Is the natural aspiration greater or equal to the blowing power of the little motor? If not, then wouldn't you see SOME kind of horsepower improvement. I know it sounds like the "E-bay" thing, but could it really work?

if you got a powerfull @$$ shop vac that could blow like a tornado, then when you were on the dyno hook that shyt up, LOL, thats straight redneck right there

it might not be on cars being done if noone thought to try it. Ideas have to start somewhere and i don't think the human race knows everything yet.
can't think why, if you could increase the airspeed in the intake throught the whole powerband it wouldn't do something. :talon:

Well it has been thought of before, I have seen many people before on other forums think of it. They went to the extremes of gas-powered leaf blowers. The fact is it is not even close to the gradual cfm increase of a turbo.

"Gradual" hit the nail right on the head ... an electric supercharger would only help if it supplied enough cfm and since your attempting a shop vac I would say it would only create boost at idle and probly very little after that. But this isnt gradual, its a one time thing ... once your RPMs get high enough the engine will create vacuum again and then the shop vac would only hurt its ability to get fresh air. I think you may shoot some bad stuff into your engine as well or you may burn your shop vac up but they're both yours to destroy if you like.

Let us know if anything cool does happen though. :thumb:

get a powerful leaf blower, and hook up a cable from your gas pedel to the trigger on the leaf blower so it adjusts blower throttle for your throttle percentage. uhhh if you could get that to work perfect, all that would hold ya back is the power of the leaf blower... or just get a turbo

It that worked GM would have put it on thier cav's years ago. heh

I guess I'm just grasping at straws trying to make my car not suck as bad. Oh well. Such is life. I know I know "Get a Hahn or Star"... Driver carries NO cash: He's in college.

God, Its good to know me and my friends aren't the only one with dumb ideas. We took my friends sunfire and did the leaf blower. We took his hood off and ran the blower into the intake. We made a longer throttle cable for it, so we could do it from inside the car. We got on the E-way and turned the blower on. It deffinatly made it move faster. We couldn't have been pushing more than 800cfm, but it was cool. Yes, we get bored!

i hear ya man...n/t and in college, im plain broke---tryin to see if i can sneak a turbo kit under my student loans :D

When I graduate in May, I'll walk down the isle, get my diploma from Donna Shalala, shake the hands of the dudes in my department, and then finally end my walk at Ms. Sallie Mae who will happily put a dog collar on me and make me her bi***.

undefinedundefined :D :talon:
when i worked at pepboys me and a few mustang heads read an artical on a mustang that had a toro leaf blower on it and it made him gain a sec in 1/4 mile but was disqualified because it wasnt an actual car part so we thought it would be a fun thing to try because we were bored and i had a toro blower we hooked it up to my intake manifold and it did increase the rpms but we had it pluged into a wall 120ac we came to the idea to get a power inverter to supply the cause but we only had 400 watts i did not work that well but then we did some math and decided we needed more watts like 1500 to 2500 to make it happen but a power inverter that big was too much money to worry about for a messly 1500 rpm jump but if your desperate its one way to get you going LOL it was cool idea for some drunk car guys to mess with. :D
