well if you know who I am, then you know about the shop that im dealing with
well I just got an email saying he found a bolt from my cam gears down in the side case, which bound up the oil pump. I have unorthodox adjustable cam gears, HE called them CHEAP...?
so now the bearings are shot, on piston is shot,
I paid 4500 for this rebuild, brand new complete engine,
of course I asked him for a credit back because I paid for a 4500 engine and he wants to put a block in that has ross pistons and pauter rods. the original had eagle rods and arias pistons, not very happy.
anyone got any thoughts on what I should do (take the block with ross pistons or make him rebuild the one i had,) keep in mind he has had my car for 3 months now. Im tired of waiting......

honestly if it was me, I would get what i paid for. I'd tell him to put MY stuff that was in my block and take out that cheap-o stuff..if he has a problem with it, I'm pretty sure that BBB wouldnt mind talking to him

Ross vs Arias is pretty much a toss up, but the Pauter rods are much, much better than the Eagle rods. Eagle rods are pretty much at the bottom of the barrel as far as aftermarket rods go.

Eagle rod maching quality is crap. Eagle was one of the first to come out with a aftermarket rod for us and they made a name for themselves since that was our only option. Everyone runs them because there cheap as well so more motors are seen with them but these days they are starting to fan out with all the other rod manufacures jumping on the dsm band wagon.

Was the bolt their fault or yours? If it was their fault then I hate to say it but get a lawyer involved. If it was your fault then your S.O.L! If it can not be determined how it got their then the repair is up to the shop disgression. Good luck

Did he install the cam gears or did you? If he installed them, odds are the bolts weren't properly tightened and he didn't check them. Its probably on honest mistake. Just keep working with him on a resolution. Expensive parts don't always egual quality parts, so dont argue with him about that. Just keep on him that the engine was in his control when all this happened. Is he putting in a used block? Or a new block.

You should give him major props for replacing another motor on his own dime.

Bottom line is this, he is doing you a big favor by replacing something that was taken out by a freak accident.

Mine are dead on aswell, they were even weight matched to within .1 grams of each other.

Every manufacturer will have a batch of rejects every once in awhile and thats just something that not preventable. Every person that received a bad set of rods should have called Eagle and went through the warranty process. They stand by their work.

Those bad sets of rods that went around a few years ago were a fluke, most people called Eagle and got a new set.

I didn't say they were BAD rods, I was just saying they're the worst of the aftermarket rods. Can you name an aftermarket rod that's worse than an Eagle as far as durability? They do at least hold the advantage of being the lightest steel rod out there, although the Scat rods are right there also.

Some people have had luck with Eagles to 900hp, just like some people have made 600whp on stock 7-bolts. Others have snapped Eagles at 500whp on professionally built engines. I think one reason people don't always have good luck with Eagles is that they are not as forgiving of detonation as the I-beam rods are. H-beam rods are really good in tension but marginal in compression compared to the I-beam design, and detonation causes huge spikes in the compression loading of a rod.

thats really cool that he's not even stressing putting another motor back together. Just work with the guy, and I'm sure he'll work with you. good luck with it.

Anyone that is using adjustable cam gears should know that the nuts can come loose. Any adjustable cam gears shouldn't just be bolted on. Each nut should be removed and thread locker should be applied, then torqued to the specified amount.

You're lucky this shop isn't trying to screw you.
I've used eagle rods before and had success, but I'd take pauters over them any day. Ross pistons are proven time and time again.

Good luck and tell him to apply locktite on those nuts next time around.

Explian again why there are adjustable cams gears in the engine and no one bothered to degree the cams (thereby adjusting the adjustable cam gears), let alone verify that the bolts were tight?

a third party for the cylinder head! Does that mean that you have to add that person to the list of responcible people.

I originally was asking if the adjustable cam gears served a purpose, by allowing the cams to be degreed in. If this was not the case then they could have been left off the build, since they were not contributing.

1. Hes not running off with the car because my car is right next to yours and it is fine.
2. He takes a bit of time but the work is WELL worth it, so what he makes up for in shop time your car will outlast your interest in driving it.
3. He never touched the cam gears, just removed the head in order to build your block. Unorthadox uses different quality bolts without lockwashers like fidanza does.

Eagle rods are graeat, ANd CJ messed up I had the Same problems with the car I bought off him.

If I was you, I would get frickin money back. That guy sold me this car that he said hasd50 miles on the "rebuilt motor" I cant tell you how bad this guy is with cars. His customer service is literally as bad as it gets. I was 18 years old at the time and bought this white fwd 2g from him. That peice of s*** had a rod knock when I got home and leaked oil . The next morning it had a great big puddle under it. I call CJ back and he goes "it was your dads beat run he took" My dad's 1 mile "beat run" isnt gonna kill a motor thats fast. But back to you; I wouldnt have that hack do anything on your car, just get a cash refund. I could go on all day about my experience with HID Tuning.
