shifting problem (A/T)

ok i have a problem with my 420a a/t from time to time it will down shift into 3rd gear while im driving and get stuck in 3rd gear and than when i slow down to a complete stop it will downshift again but it dosent go into 1st gear it on goes into 2nd gear so i have to pull over turn the car off than start it back up and its fine i went to a tranny place and they said that our kind of cars shift solenoid goes up alot i just want to make sure this is the shift solenoid.

To me, it really does sound like the shift solenoids. I can not say that I know alot about transmissions, although i have been a mechanic for awhile now, and do have general knowledge about driveability issues. Before condemning the solenoid pack, you need to check the transmission fluid level and quality. Make sure it doesn't smell burnt and looks right.

I would agree with this. If it was a solenoid issue wouldn't shifting into park or even neutral reset it? If you have to turn the car off it sounds like an issue with the TCU. Just IMO though.

Ok well the fuild is good i just change the filter and gasket not to long ago and once it happens if i pull over and park, it and turn it off and back on it shifts fine, i replaced the TCU.
