Shifter movement in gears and neutral

Okay, searching provides little help in this subject. My shifter has slop forward and backward, while most accounts of this problem only mention left and right movement. There is a lot of play front and back in 1st, 2nd, and 4th. The shifter feels strange coming out of 3rd because of this problem.

Basically it feels like i have about an inch of freeplay front to back, regardless of gear or if im in neutral (much less prominent in 3rd and 5th gears). When im in neutral i can wiggle the shifter left right with resistance due to the spring, but almost no resistance to front/back movement. I currently have the following shift mods that SHOULD make my shifter stiff as crap..

1. Symbrorski shift kit
2. underhood shift kit
3. B & M short shifter

It seemed to get worse over time, now sometimes i misjudge neutral plane in my car when coming out of 3rd and dont fully release it from gear. Please help if possible. Any suggestions are welcome. - Brandon

Thanks for your response. However, it wasnt anything outlined in the link above. Apparently I should have used more locktite on the short shifter when i installed it. The bolts were so loose that i could easily move them with my fingers, so i tightened them up real nice and this time i put two nuts on there, just to make sure it didnt back out again. Shifter feels like new.
