shift into L

hey, i was wondering if its ok to drive in the "L" gear safely? what about 2nd?

Hey just posting to ur question.. i have driven many automatics before and suggest that u dont do every day driving in L .. if u want to put a lot of stress on ur motor and transmission.. u aint gonna get good gas mileage either.. just a thought.. its ok to drive in it.. i guess just not for a long time.. MOre over reason.. just dont do it.. u can launch in L.. but dont drive in L all the time..

I don't know what your definition of "Drive safely" is, but "L" = 1st gear. I wouldn't recommend driving anywhere in first, unless you're just moving the car. "2" is second gear, "D" with OD off is 3rd gear, and "D" with OD on is 4th/Over Drive gear.

well said maui. If you want to get on the highway driving in 1st gear. Good Luck. I can tell you what the outcome will be already. You can launch in L but ur gonna need to shift it manually otherwise your gonna blow something.

Its an automatic let the trans do what its supposed to do keep it in D. Dont try shiftin like a stick thats not what its made to do.

exactly, if u want a little extra power or whatever thats why they have that niftly little eco/pwr button.

when I'm stuck in really crappy, barely moving traffic, I leave the trans in 1st gear. This eliminates the gear hunting between 1st and 2nd when crawling at 5 mph.

If I'm in slow moving around town traffic, I'll leave the trans in 2nd to keep the rpm's at ~ 3000.

Otherwise I leave it in D. OD only on hiways.
