My problem is when i crank it over the crankshaft pulley and the alternator and power steering pump belts move but my timing belt doesn't!

Its making a grinding ish noise when it crank it over. What could this be? Could my belt be streched and its just not grabbing the crank sprocket?

please help

pop off the crank pulley and look. You need to stop moving the engine right now. You could stop the damage at just bent valves vs. broken ones.

Was your timing belt tensioned properly? Is anything pinning your cam gears keeping them from moving? You better make sure that you haven't already screwed up your valves and pistons by impacting them off each other.

no there not compacting and hitting each other becouse the cams arent moving. soo there staying at TDC while the motor is turning over. it might be the tensioner, there might be a bolt somewhere

Sounds like your timing belt sheared off some teeth and is not grabbing your cam gears. Take off your timing cover and check everything out.

TDC is a reference to piston position. It does not mean all of the valves are closed. OMG

All these guys are right. You have had a timing belt failure. Did the engine stop running and you noticed this was the problem? If this is the case, you may have bent some valves and lost compression. Pull the valve cover and check for lose followers.

no no no look, it was all timed, and the belt is not moving and not turning the camshafts and they were closed. but the pistons and whole bottom end is turning over. i was asking what it could be. but my vavles could be bent idk idc. im just asking what could make it do this

and no timing belt did not snap, and i was not driving on it. this car has been out of commision for like two months. i change the head gasket and all this BULLSH*T STARTS happinin.

ohh hmmmm i did the compess it and put it back on way. but im guesssing my vavles are bent. but it dosnt sound like it though. no ticks or anything. thr grinding was the belt i belive. once again. im buhumbugged! he he

As mentioned in post #6, TDC does not mean the valves are closed.

The valves are all closed around 30°ATDC.

Well don't pull the head yet. You need to pull the t belt cover and see what has happened. I have seen the cheap gator belts strip the teeth off and do what you are experiencing. It also could be poor tension on the belt. Do to a bad tensioner. After you fix the belt and do a compression test you will know if the valves are bent.

dude this isnt a hard one...if the cranks spinning and the cams arnt and the timing belt is tight then the teeth on the belt are sheared off....if you started it like this and heard the pistons hit the valves that would be tho only reason to check them because the cams arnt moving... if not get a new timing belt and tensioner and put it on

TDC only means the valves on cylinders #1 and #4 are closed. Two and three aren't.
Your cam gear sheared the teeth from the timing belt that had been engaged with it. You will need a top-end job, and timing job.

get ready to spend more money. pull the t belt and see if you can move the cams by the 17mm bolt. if they don't move, you have bent valves. pull the plugs thougha nd make sure the crank is in a position where all 4 pistons are about halfway up so they aren't in the way of the valves when you do this.
