London,
I purchased a set of rear calipers to replace mine, which weren't working. I removed the entire brake assembly and now I am not sure how to seperate the caliper(thing with piston in it) from the torque plate ( thing with brake pads in it).

I'm not sure what you're asking. And there's no such thing as a torque plate in reference to the brake system.

The calipers are bolted to caliper brackets by the lock and guide bolts. Then those brackets are bolted to the suspension. The pads just set in the calipers and are contained by the caliper bracket. And the rotor is bolted to the hub and is inside the pads.

Could you put up a picture of what you're trying to take apart so I could get a better idea?

I think he wants to know how to remove the caliper from the bracket.
He needs to unbolt the lock pin and then rotate the caliper on the guide pin until it clears the pads and then it can be slid off the guide pin and bracket.

The lower lock pin has been removed and the upper guide pin is sticking out of the bracket with the pads installed.
