has any one installed a 4 pt harness latley and if so which do you preffer. am going for saftey not looks.... thanks... :talon:

Any 3" that meets SFI. I have G-Force.

If these are going in a daily-driver, pay the extra for a cam-lock. Trust me on this.

Ditto what J-Toby said.

I'm going Team Tech cam lock.

i just picked up two sparco 5pts from speedwaremotorsports.com for $99/ea (blue only, unfortunately). They are SFI rated, 3" and have cam locks. It's a pretty good deal for that price. You'll of course need a cage/harness bar, and/or some of the mounting brackets, which are $10/ea (you'll need one for each point that doesn't go around a bar, naturally).

hope that helps

Current SCCA rules have 6 pt as a minimum, with a 7pt setup recommended... Other sanctioning bodies usually follow their lead, so consider 5 pr's out if you're a road racer or stage rallyist. Cam lock is easiest to use, but if used in dirty environments they're more prone to jamming up than a latchlink is.

If you're going to use them everyday, you might consider these:

I have sparco 4 point cam-lock harness that I'm perfectly happy with, but I only use it during autocross. There's no way I would use it everyday.

I've been told it's kind of unsafe to wear a harness without a roll bar, because you're head is all locked into place, and in the event of a rollover you have a better chance of being decapitated. The stock 3 point belt lets your body move side to side easier if need be in that situation. I don't know how much truth there is to that though.

Despite the huge jump in safety, you may find that real harnesses are illegal for road use if you're in a mandatory seatbelt-use state.

It's true that it's a bad idea to wear a real harness in a car without a roll cage. Compression of the spine is a bad thing. There *are* some street legal harnessbelts out there. Schroth makes some. They're 2" and either 3 (y-belt) or 4 point. The Schroth belts have a device in them to allow the body to move over some in the event of crash, hopefully avoiding the bodily harm that might otherwise occur in a rollover.

I can't think of any 3" or cam lock belt that is DOT certified. Not usually a problem with LEOs, but it's one more thing they could use against you in a stop :) Been awhile since I looked it up, but IIRC, the national belt law goes something like "must be DOT approved or pass a 2000lb static pull test"...

You seem to be mixing two issues.

Compression of the spine is cause by having an excessive angle to the shoulder-belts. Classic example is when the shoulder-belts use the rear-seat lap-belt anchors.

What happens when you wear a harness, roll the car, and have the roof crush in is your neck gets broken (with helmet) or your head gets mushed (without helmet).
