Safe to take this off?

Just wondering if the part in the picture can be removed, and if it is does it hurt anything, I noticed that it is part attached to the PS pump. Just wondering, I want to either remove it or polish it, looks ugly and rusted....thanks!

So if I remove and replace it, is that going to loosen my PS belt any? Is this part used to creat tension for the PS pump? What is its function?

All that is used for is to hoist the engine out of the bay. I removed mine 3k miles ago with no ill effects. You might have to install a spacer/washers on the lower corner manifold stud so you can retighten the nut but I dont see any other problems. My 1g has a long stud in that location and when removed, the nut would bottom out before it tightened up against the manifold.
