Ok i am sure this has been asked befor but i cant seem to find it doing a search. Please if someone has his problem or know how to fix it please help me. I installed a safc II on my 90 talon using the install from vfaq and then my tach quit working. Any thought on why or what to check out. Please help it has not worked since the install i thought i might have cut a wire. I went threw and everything looks ok i have even had the car running wiggling wires and un hooking them and still cant get it to work is there a fuse or all the gauges in the dash on one fuse.

I don't know about the 90's, but the 2g cluster is all on one fuse. BTW, you can pull that fuse and stop the odometer, but you loose your PW also.

Anyway, are you SURE that you tapped the correct wire? Are you sure that you didn't accidently cut the tach signal as opposed to tapping into it? What type of tap did you use? Are you sure that it is seated properly and is making contact with the tach signal wire?

I would go back through the AFC install and make sure that you did everything correctly. It sounds like you are interupting the signal coming from the ECU to the gauge cluster. If you tapped the ECU with some type of connector instead of soldier make sure that the connector didn't cut all the way through the wire.

We use wire taps at a local stereo shop that I use to work at and sometimes they would cut all the way through and they are very hard to trouble shoot once that happens. If you are having a problem with this then I would suggest getting the wires soldiered. If you can't do it and don't have any friends that will just go to a stereo shop and they should be able to do it.

Let us know how it comes out.

i didnt use any taps i made a slit aorund the wires and pulled the covering back and i did soldier everything togeather i wont use taps because of that. i even soldered my stereo in but i will go back threw and check all my connections.

Check specificly the rpm signal wire that you tapped into. I bet its been cut instead of tapped.

Check all of your fuses to make sure that none of them are blown, but I believe that the whole gauge cluster is on one fuse so if just the tach is not working then that is probably not the cause and it has to be caused by something else.

I have been through all of my wires making sure that non of the broke and i don't see a single one. I even took the green wire off witch according to vfaq is the rpm signal i loose rpm on the AFC but i don't get it back on the tach so i re hooked it up i will check to see if the pin might have came loose.

If the pin would have come out of the ECU harness then you wouldn't get signal to either the AFC or the gauge. There has to be something wrong with the signal after the splice for the AFC. Either there is something wrong with the connection or there is something keeping the tach from getting the signal from the ecu.

If it was working fine before the afc install, then it HAS to be the rpm signal wire that you spliced into. Tripple check. or better yet, cut it where you spliced it and reconect that wire again.

i would like to thank you all for helping me fix my problem. i kept checking for broken wires and didn't see any. I thought everything was fine it was as simple and stupid as what skinny told me to do i cut and put a butt connector in and it started working. thanks again ever one for the help. :talon: :laser: :dsm:
