SAFC II detects knock or does it?

People say I need logging tools to detect knock, why?
The safc has a knock count and I can freeze the highest count
under monitor settings. It also has a little map/graph display
that I can record and play back.

I understand the benifits of logging but maybe I'm missing something?

On the SAFC you set the knock by rpm, there's raw data while idle
so you lock the raw data in at a specific RPM.
While messing around with boost on stock injectors and honeycombs removed
I have seen knock counts around 8 or 9 usually while decellerating
and as high as 89 if I'm trying to lean everything by like -15% on
the high throttle setting across the rpm band running 14lbs boost.

Is the SAFCII not accurate at all, is it not accurate enough, is it lying to me?
I know the 6 bolt motors are strong and the 1g rods, etc.
I'm curious and I don't want to fry the motor just because I'm anxious to
see how far I can push it. Destroying a motor in my mind excuses all of
the aftermarket stuff I can put back in. At least the Girlfriend doesn't know any better.

well, looks like you figured that out on your own. When I go to the track I lean my car out as far as possible to where it won't knock, or pick up 4-6 counts tops (still not pulling timing). I don't look at anything else. A logger helps because you can monitor and test other things, but if your car is sound I say stick with the safc and beat the hell out of your car.

Well my main consern is not so much what I can get away with, instead
weather or not the SAFC II is really detecting knock that's accurate
or if it's completly off.

People say it doesn't detect knock and I'm trying to figure out why

The SAFC logs something, it's not quite what the ECU calls knock.

If you train it well, and you find it usefull to you that's great but don't confuse what the SAFC shows for what you would get out of the ECU with a datalogger.

I curious.. what ECU pinout do you have the purple wire from the SFAC-2 tapped?

As an FYI.. 1G DSM dataloggers are nearly free these days (can get one for <$30 with freeware on eBay).. and will provide other critical infor such as Injector Duty Cycle, Timing Advance, Knock Sum, CELs, O2 Values, Fuel Trims..etc.
