I did a several searches for variations of "SAFC2" and kept getting random threads so if you know of a thread that covers this please post it.

I got an S-AFC 2 from another dsmtuner member from the classifieds section and installed it on my 95 GSX. Well, obviously he didn't reset to factory defaults because my car idles WAY different and when I tried to move my car in the driveway it felt and sounded different.

I got everything wired up according to www.prostreetonline.com (only install tutorial I could find) but the S-AFC2 won't turn on. The green LED knob is lit up, but the power light on the top right and the LCD doesn't display anything. I'm curious if maybe he set a password or something, a joystick combo I have to do for it to unlock?

Also there's a check engine light and I reset the ECU I think it went away but still no LCD.

Yeah you're right, I trust the gentleman that sold me the unit, it is in working condition and he DID reset it before he sent it. Why it's idling so weird? I don't know, It was late, (7:00pm but it was dark enough to be 2:00am) and I may have made a mistake. I used a pinout from vfaq, it's hard to determine what side of the harness the numbers corrispond to, the front or the back or if you're facing the ecu, it was weird. Anyway, I'm going to check it out first thing in the morning, I left the panels off.

http://www.vfaq.com/mods/wayback/ITCinstall.html Are these instructions the same for the SAFC-2?

Haha.. I sold it to you, that's why I know it works....

ah, my bad. I didn't realize the link from vfaq was dead, and it's linked to that now. disregard that one.

The main menu should come up with the key in the on position.

If memory serves me correct, Pin #1 is the topmost right pin when looking at the ECU. Just find the biggest plug, and that is the plug with pin 1 in it.

I think I used regular SAFC instructions to install it the first time around. http://www.vfaq.comm/mods/wayback/afcinstall.html

Make sure the SAFC is grounded to the ECU ground.

Okay well then that might be my problem right there, the instructions you used state that the white and pink are used for the airflow signal, prostreetonline.com says it's white and orange?

Sorry, wrong link then. Pink goes to the ECU and orange goes to the wiring harness side of the air flow wire.

the prostreet tutorial is correct. Go back and make sure that everything is connected correctly, and that you didn't accidentally miswire something. They all look the same laying on your back underneath the dash. :p

[edit]

When you turn the key to the on position, the Apex-I splash screen should come up, then the main menu.

One more thing to check is the grounds. I have seen this problem (so be in on a SAFC 1) that the orange arrow leds (controls) would light but the display would not, it was the grounds. There are grounds and the one has the be closer to the ECU by some distance (0.5" I belive). Maybe check that out?

^What he said. The manual says about 39205723 times in bold type that those ground wires have to hooked up correctly, so it must be important.

I installed my SAFCII according to the SAFCI instructions on vfaq and I doubled checked those with the APEXi provided wiring diagram. I did hook up the knock wire because the APEXi instructions said too, I did not hook up the O2 voltage wire (I have a dedicated gauge for that).

FYI, the "light" on the top right isn't a power light, its a photo sensor that's used to auto dim the screen at night, if it lights up then you got bigger problems. ;)

Yeah, I went over it in my head a couple of times why it wouldn't work. It's obviously getting some power meaning the ground has to be disconnected somewhere in there. I also realised why it was idling shitty, cuz I cut the karman signal in half and since the SAFC2 isn't powered fully it's still pretty much disconnected.

Okay, that's good to know. I just assumed it was a power light. hehe

It was so freakin dark and cold where I installed it, so I'll go make sure I did it right.

oh the joys of working on your car when cold. It always hit me when it snowing out. Talk about suck ass working when its freezing.

Alright, I got her to work =) Re-did my ground and it worked. I did the exact same thing I did last night LOL, Kaminski luck I guess.

True. It's so hard trying to keep the parts I buy on my desk until it's warm.

glad to hear you got her working. Nothing like that inital "crap what did I do wrong?" once you try to fire her up and it does not give.
