Hey everyone, Jon here from DSM Graveyard,

Ok, we are building a RWD 2G, and want to race in a widely seen class. We are shooting for the high 9's so we need to find a class to get into. Im sure we are not the only people out there with a RWD 4 Cylinder with 1 power adder looking for a class.

Let me know what we all know, Thanks!

Good luck with your search, but I'm not sure how much you're going to really find. NHRA has a class in the Lucas Oils Drag Racing Series in Competition Eliminator called DD/AT. We have a rear wheel drive 4g63 car we're going to be competing with in that class. However, the class record was just set this weeked at 7.26@189 mph, so I don't think that class is for you (based on your previously stated goal). Other than that, bring that baby to the Showdown at Englishtown in August to compete in the Quick 16! You might want to check Battle of the Imports and Import Faceoff (IFO) to see what they offer for classes. You could bring that car to the east coast and run a few of the 200 or so (I'm exaggerating) bracket races. If you want a schedule of the major races going on on the east coast, pm me and I'll send you the schedule. Most of our major races are in New Jersey.

Shawn, don't forget he could go ADRL racing with Brent Rau.

The problem with a car like the one you are describing is it's a drivetrain swapped car. You went from AWD or FWD to RWD, which means if you want to race it in a heads up class, you have to allow any drivetrain swapped 4 cylinder in. Sure you could get heavy on turbo restrictions and weight restrictions but then you'll be one of 3 cars in the country competing. Unfortunately, a RWD 1G or 2G puts you in a pretty elite league of racing and you better be going low 7's or better to compete heads up.

Hey, thanks guys, Ill probably be trying to get ahold of you for a few ideas if you don't mind. We are just trying to get something cost efficient out there for now, under the 10 second mark. AWD gets pricey once you hit 9's. Anyways, we will still build the car, and I guess get it faster as next season comes along. BUT I need to get some experience too before I start going into the under 9 second mark. I guess this year Ill run it at our IHRA track and get some seat time, and we are planning on coming to E town this year, instead of the shootout. It is an extra 4 hours, but we bought a RV for a reason:hellyeah:, and plus I hear a lot of fast guys will be there.

We will get a project log going, with some pics of our fab work, and some other cool stuff we are doing out here in Kalamazoo.

Thanks for the advise!

I'm glad to hear you're coming to E-town. I'll be there with my 2G and our 4G63 dragster. Come find me at some point, I'd like to take a look at the car. Since you have an RV, I assume you'll be staying at Etown Saturday night, I'll be there too in my RV so we'll have to catch up.

I agree, AWD becomes very expensive in the sub 10 second range. Unfortunately, you're opening a can of worms with RWD though in terms of finding a class. FWD actually has the best class opportunities at the moment for an import. Then a pro level RWD car would have the next most, but again, you'd have to run in the low 7, high 6 second range. Feel free to ask any other questions you might have.

Go to the ADRL with Brent? If he's building a high 9 second car his 1/8 mile times wouldn't be close to qualifying. Brent, Billy Glidden, and Titan live on their own planet...while the rest of us mere mortals live here on earth!ROFL We'll also be staying at the track at Englishtown on Saturday, and I can't wait to see that 2G rear wheel drive car out there. Have you ever considered index racing? Here on the east coast we have 8.50, 10.0 and
12.0 index heads up classes. They are WILDLY popular at our local tracks. Heads up, first to the finish (without breaking out in your selected class) close racing! Turn the boost down and run 10.0 index. Just don't run 9.99 or quicker.....Sounds like your car is going to be set up similar to Kevin Jewer's car. I've always wanted to see a 2G set up like that one.....If there's any ideas we can help with, let me know. I'm sure between Tony and me we can guide you in the right direction!

Nice choice of class your going to be in. One thing id like to see alot of is the engine and tranny mounting, and to see what your going to do for the front suspension.

And on a side note, since your doing a rwd conversion, what are the chances of you selling a kit for 1g&2g cars? Im having a hard time to find a a/t tranny and this might be something id look into

Very good question, We are building a conversion kit, minus trans and rear diff for a Ford setup. We are basically doing a engine plate, and flex plate so the 2 hard parts are an easy find. Engine brackets will normally need to be fabricated, but we will work on it. We are building a few sets for the C6 trans, for a few others here around Kzoo that are interested in a RWD Conversion.

Now, we have been doing a lot of decision making with this project since I have last posted. Basically, since we are still building it, and hoping to get it done by Etown, we might try to reach a higher HP goal. We do want to get into a pro style racing, of every or every other weekend, but I think that will have to come next season. Low 7's is going to be hard so for E town, will just go with the 9's, but get seat time for next season. At this point, the car is just stripped ready for the 4 link conversion, but since we have decided on moving shops here in June, the race car is kinda sitting in second place right now, which really sucks. Ill get a project log going on where we are, and the RWD Conversion parts we are useing, and hopefully get some more RWD guys out there so we can have some good classes :thumb:.

Thanks for your advise, I will be happy to see everyone at E town at the end of the summer!!
