Well, it's almost time to start on the 2.6 project car again. In my recent time of unemploment, I've been tossing around the idea of going to a rear drive setup and possibly trying to find a way to put a t56 tranny in along with a 12 bolt or 9' rear end. First off, I know it's a lil extreme, but thats what I'm going for. I've been in this build for over a year and drivetrane has been my only concern. I was originally shooting for Shep, but I don't think I'm prepared to rebuild my motor every weekend of the race season just yet. I'm wanting to put up some low 10s possibly single digits and still keep it semi streetable;) . Just wanna hear the thoughts of the almighty:rolleyes: DSMers here. Gimme the good and the bad.
I know it's gonna cost a sh!t load more, but I'm not wanting to break axles and t-cases all day. Well, lets have it then.

honestly i think that isnt the best idea, i would love to have a gsx, and would take full advantage of the awd, if you want a badass rwd get a supra or something, dont tear apart your gsx, but thats just me :barf:

Just trying to get everyone's opinion on the idea. AWD is great for making only about 400hp. I'm looking for about 800 - 1000 max. Ya know, something around Shep's power rang, but RWD and a custom setup 6 speed. Not asking what I should do, I'm just throwing ideas around and wanna get some feedback. I'm the idiot who wants to be the only one with a RWD, 6 speed Eclipse ever.

2.6L? RWD? Sounds like a starion to me. Why not just start with that car? Besides the fact the rear axles are significantly larger and it readily set up for the powertrain you seek to install.

DSM's
3 bolt 22mm
4 bolt 24mm

Conquest/Starion
4 bolt (non intercooled axles) 30 mm
4 bolt (intercooled 86-87 axles) 32 mm
6 bolt (intercooled 88-89 axles) 36 mm


If you are dead set on a DSM plateform with a solid rear axle, I'd suggest using a FWD car as a base. The trailing link mounts for the rear beam axle will work well for the solid axle trailing links. The FWD cars also have a panhard bar mount that is used for the stock beam axle. That would also be used.

Now thats what I call the best post ever. Thanx for the input, it will go as far as I can think about it. I'm dead set onthe 2g AWD car, cause I alread have one and I wanna be unique too. Just ogtta iron out a way to mount a 6speed (T56) to the bell housing. I was also thinking of doing an IRS rear like from a vette or somehting, possibly the old Jaguar E type rear. I'd rather not go with the straight axle setup, but it would be easier to get my hands on one. I wasn't even thinking of using the stock GSX rear, that thing would snap on motor alone. The 2.6 that I speak of is a stroked out g4cs with a full race 1g head. Turbo undecided, possibly t72, but dunno yet. Some sort of EMS;(AEM, Tec3, ek6....) Just looking for more ideas on how to get this idea into more of a reality.
