Strut towers for sure. I took out the carpet in my trunk, and I found a lot of rust behind the rear wheels. In my car it had actually rusted all the way through, and someone had tried to cover it with duck tape. I don't know if this is common, but I just figured I would throw it out there.

On my car ive had some surface rust on one of the front fenders, the lip on the inside of my hatch is rusted through, my rocker panels look pretty solid but thats just what i can see, the spare tire well is rusted because of a leak in the wiper fluid tank, and just a tiny bubble on my strut tower but its nothing a little bit of POR-15 can't fix. Also i just noticed the bottoms of both of my doors have a tiny tiny bit of bubbling that im going to be taking car of soon.

Definitely the strut towers, alot of us have had that problem. other points I have rust on mine in the lip top lip of the hatch and the bottom corners of the doors as stated before, although mine isn't too bad there.

Strut towers is the most common and "deadly"
lower rad. Support
under the doors
rear wheel wells
and just take a good look underneath the whole car. To me it seems like the 2ga talons are always rusted to shit??? All the subframes and hubs are rusted. And the nuts and bolts are usually Impossible to get off or they just break haha.

Good luck with the car if you end up getting it!!

rear lower wheel well..(in front of rear tires) im currently in the process of cutting a huge section of metal out to get fresh metal welded on. it had rust holes thru 3 panels/layers! dam side skirts was hiding it all!! an i just barely got away with surface rust on the actual frame off the car. mines is kinda bad.

I've got a little bit on the drivers side rear quarter, where it meets the rear bumper cover. Some surface rust in the spare tire well. A little bit of rust bubbling on the underside of the front lip on the hood. This is also a car that sat for 3 years.

All the places that have already been mentioned. my car is from South Dakota and I only had a little surface rust on the strut mount cups. I got a used hood from a guy here in CAli and it has a little rust at the very front underside of it.

Who knows how to repair these problems? My girl's GSX has a huge rust hole under the door near the right rear wheel well.

i feel bad for you northern folk. i just striped a 110% rust free talon here in southern california.
I know that this post was some time ago but what exactly did you do about the rust situation. And what kind of shop did you find to tackle the rust.
I have the same issue with my 96 talon
