I recently had a problem with my engine surging at idle, as soon as it would warm up. I did a few diagnostic checks (vaccum, timing, etc.) and came up with nothing. It was giving a trouble code for the VAF sensor and the MAP sensor, so I pulled the plug off the VAF and it ran smooth. I drove it for like a week like that, and was getting horrible mileage, so I finally got around to troubleshooting the VAF. one of the checks was a resistance check of the plug with it disconnected. as soon as I did that, the engine surged and died. I tried to restart it but nothing. so I plugged the sensor back up, and it ran smooth again, now with the VAF hooked up. As soon as I hit the throttle, it coughed hard, and would barely idle without help. There was a strong fuel odor from the exhaust. I then pulled the plugs out and found they were extremely fouled. so I replaced them, minimal difference.
This morning I got in a used VAF, hooked it up, but no difference. I tried the same ohm check and it possibly has a bad ground. Is the blue/yellow wire the ground? Where does it ground to? The only other ideas I have are either the throttle position sensor, or the ecu.
this car has no mods and 105000 on it. Has anyone else had anything similar to this, or any ideas on what I should check?
