like the title says, would it be safe to run high octane 98 or 103 or higher on stock internals. the gas stations around here just started carrying race fuel which is unheard of in this small po-dunk town i live in.

Yes high octane is good for the car, and easier to tune with. The higher the octane the lower your chance of knock. But if your car is 100% stock there is NO benifit to running higher than 94 IMO.

Just find out if its leaded or unleaded. If its leaded then you will not want to run a CAT with it. other than that it should be fine! :thumb:

also remember what brand gas is important too! i wouldnt get "race" gas from some small town gas station like we have here i'd make the drive to chuck town and get some from exxon

You should be able to extract a fair amount more power with the higher octane because you'll be able to either up the boost or advance your timing curve without running into knock and I highly doubt that the fuel is leaded. Keep in mind that the stuff is probably for off road use only and the gas station employees may get very excited if you pour it directly into your car. We have 110 here and I played with it for a bit but filling up gas tanks to fill my car at home turned into a hassle so I quit using it. There is also a substantial fine if you get caught using dyed fuel in your vehicle.

Off topic to your post, your profile says that you have an evo3 big 16g. It isn't important but there is no such thing, and it is either an evo3 16g or a big 16g.

Yep, throw in the 98. It should be unleaded so there shouldn't be a problem with that. If the 103 isn't leaded, then do that one. Leaded is bad for sensors. With the higher octane you can run higher boost, more timing and also run a leaner mix because it's resistance to knock. Just watch your A/F ratio (or front o2 voltage if you don't have a WB) and your EGT gauge to make sure it doesnt get too hot in there. Other then that, that E316g will love it :D.

the gas is unleaded, and i wouldnt run striaght race gas in a car that isnt able to tune for the race gas, the higher octance the less prone to knock, but if anything i'd run a mix of 93 and race gas it would be like a really nice octane booster :). i'd put like a gallon or two in see how it runs

duely noted, the mork, its an evo 3 16g. and andrew have you checked out the little crickets cam race gas?

i know the people who own the station but like i said id make a trip to chuck town to get some from exxon, stick with brands you know are good

You always want to run the lowest octane your engine will tolerate. Octane additives take up the place of that many gasoline molecules, leave more residue when burned, and reduce engine efficiency.
If you aren't experiencing uncontrollable knock, you are running as high an octane as you need. Higher will gain you nothing.

I've used leaded race gas for the summer races, about once or twice a month, and I've replaced my 02 sensor once in two years. I know it's working correctly via dsmlink. It's a lot better to run unleaded, but leaded won't do uch damage if you don't use it constantly.
