Running a Honda radiator? [Merged 7-9] half scirocco afco smaller

I know this is an old thread but I have been searching around and dont want to make a new one. I have the same problem with my manifold and turbo placement and need to go with a smaller one as much as I really hate to do it. JW if anyone has used the radiator linked above and how well its been working for them or if they have had any problems or not and what all is needed to be fabed up.

what about running a stock civic radiator?

The stock civic radiators are too thin. It might work as long as you don't have A/C and a really good fan but I can't guarantee you that. If you want piece of mind the civic radiator has to be at least 2.5" thick.

I tryed to run one on my sandrail and it faild miserably @ keeping the motor cool even at low air temperatures ( around 50 deg )

what about running a stock civic radiator?

I ran one for a little while on my car. At first it worked great on a 50+ mile drive, no overheating whatsoever (slimline fan). But I soon found out on short drives with any kind of traffic, driving slowly, or having to sit and idle for a while it quickly overheated. I have since switched back to a stock dsm radiator.

Trying to find out what half size radiator people are using for the street , what brand and size ?

If it's becoming a cooling issue for you if you drive it around or sitting in traffic ?

IM wanting to weld some -16 an fitting in to give it a nice braided line look

Pictures and info would help , I tried searching but could not find much so help me out

Thanks guy's

anyone ????

Most guys run the short honda radiator. Any brand will work so long as the welds are quality... I wouldn't recommend a turbo from ebay, but the honda radiator can be had with a fan for around 80 bucks.

If you check out stms page, they have a set up for the evo. Koyo radiator and fal shroud and fan.

STM: SMALL KOYO AND F-A-L FAN KIT

I think that if you want to build your own kit, the mishimoto 3 core radiator for the honda del sol.

as far as an fittings, people have used -10an(5/8) with sufficient cooling.

also if you notice in the picture for the 2g foward facing manifold they are using the koyo with I believe -10 fitting, could be bigger.

yes ....I like that stm setup thanks for that ....but im not looking to spend $3,000 right now .... and -16an = 1" and -12an = 3/4 ....most of the outlets of a radiator are 1.25" in size thus you would have to have at least the -16an

but I would still like to see more setups

But it's a hard call right now !

It will be easier to put a half radiator in now , or take the time and put this one in ....im not running a top mount manifold or anything that big just yet but te space that it would create moving it into the support area is awsome ....I would have to worry about anything clearing , I could reach my lower intercooler pipe with ease and so on hmmmm decisions , decisions :banghead:

^^^ That's the same radiator my buddy and I will be switching to for next year. I'm debating removing the factory hood latch to get the radiator to sit even farther forward.

I think you don't have to remove if you push it forward and maybe not running a pusher fan ? There's not alot of pictures of these mounted and thats the best I could find on a 2g ...

I already bought the radiator and test fit it on my buddy's 2G. It does tuck up under that support, but it's not near as far in as I had hoped. It's limited by the factory good latch. I really don't want to remove it, but I will if I have to.

My original plan was to run a puller fan and try to get the radiator core as close to the FMIC as possible. I'm not sure how well that's going to work though, and it's probably going to be a couple months before I get to mocking everything up on my own car. Ideally, I'd like to be able to tuck the entire 3" thick radiator underneath that upper support, but I'm not yet sure if that's possible or not.

shot in the dark .... did you happen to take some pictures of you putting it in his support without removing the latch ? Id like to see how far it stuck out of the support in reference to the 2g radiator ?

Are you going to stick with factory water inlet and outlets from the 2g head ?

Im trying to get pictures from 16g-95gsx who also put one in his 2g he gave me a site that was down hoping to hear back from him soon

I have one picture that he took with his cell phone, but it's a really crappy pic, so it isn't really helpful at all.

Next time I'm out at his garage, I'll be sure to get some pictures with my Rebel. We're also running Afco's fan and shroud kit on his car. I'll be going with a single 12" SPAL fan on mine.

Yup. Both of mine already have -16 bungs welded to them from my previous set-up.

ah ok ..... yeah noticed yours was done got a question about that what did you do with the water pipe that runs across the block ? Is there a plug at the thermostat housing ?

I left my water pipe alone. It's just like it was from the factory. I still run a 7-bolt BTW, so my water pipe connects to my t-stat housing.

I went to buy that Afco radiator yesterday and realized we're out of stock at the moment. So, as long as our stock order is on time, I'll be picking one up sometime next week. I'll be sure to take lots of pictures of the radiator itself and of it mocked up on my 2G. :thumb:
