I did a couple searches on this topic and came up a bit short on the answer, sorry if I missed it and repeated a thread...

I have recently purchased a Megan Racing down pipe, which removes the cat. Will my 2g (GST) have any problems without the cat on? Will it cause fueling problems or throw the CEL? I was told I can use a o2 Simulator, but I have not got any and would really like to bolt this thing up right now, but need answers first. I value my car (has low mileage) and would rather not get knock due to under fueling or something.. Will it be ok???

Thanks

Chris

I run my GSX with out a cat and I have had no problems but the CEL is on. I got used to it after a little while. Plan on fixing that soon.

If you run DSMLink, that will allow you to disable the 2nd O2 sensor check that trips the CEL. I'm not sure if any other custom chip/tuning systems have that ability.

The Megan Racing downpipe is a great piece.

It is also possible to add a spacer to the rear o2 sensor that will allow it to read more fresh air , thus not throwing the CEL. This may introduce a slight exhaust leak though.

Thank you guys. Guess I will through it up on the car today. CEL is not a big deal as long as its not going into limp home mode. I plan on getting the AEM EMS anyway, just not within the next couple months. Thanks again.

Actually it just moves the sensor further away from the exhaust so it cannot get a true reading.

I run a RRE downpipe without a cat on my 2G. I had a CEL a few minutes after I installed the downpipe but I made my own o2 sensor simulator and my CEL hasn't been on for 3 years.

Check the tech guide for a write up on making your own o2 sensor simulator using radioshack items.

You will get a CEL eventually. Just put in an O2 simulator. The installation is very basic. Go ahead with the EMS. That thing is awesome. You just need to find a very good tuner for you to maximize its potential.

Hey I got that same downpipe. I have had it for like a year now and it has never thrown a CEL. Now my car like spits and stutters under heavier acceleration but I think it might be because of bad turbo seals or something else. I don't know if its from having no cat.

99GST here...Megan 3" turbo back. I have never got a CEL from anything related to my cat-less DP. It sounds great TOO!

Does anyone know how much worse the CO output is without a cat? I am wondering if someone has a carbon monoxide detector if they can test this out. I would rather not get braindamage sitting in traffic smelling my exhaust for a little more hp.

You could always ask someone for their readouts from their emissions test, and compare them to someone who still has a cat?

Heres the deal put the downpipe on now and run stright over to emissions right when its done get them to check it then you will never have to worry about Emissions for another 2-3 years then you can do the fake O2 and all that other crap.
