Victoria,
well, I hate Napa, the idiots at my local Napa can't get anything right, I won't explain the whole story I will just say this.. the CV boot that I finally ended up with doesn't fit very well, the CV clamp I have from Napa broke, and grease spattered, I just changed this boot out not long ago, nothing got inside, just some grease squirting out on the big end of the boot, I bought another CV clamp from somewhere else cause I couldn't bear to go back to Napa for what would have been the 4th time.. (the cv boot kit never came with a big clamp and they couldn't find one that worked, they never did) now I have a decent clamp that will work well, but I'm currently doing my T-belt and I don't want any grease on that driver side inner CV boot getting anywhere near that timing cover, when it originally broke it somehow found it's way in there.. so since the fitment on the Napa part isn't very good at all can I use some RTV to seal it up and make certain it won't leak out the top? I've spent a lot of money on the car lately or I would just go get 2 new axles, but since I want to replace both of them I'd like to wait until I go back to work and complete my next contract.. they'll be fine for now, they make no noise and the boot was changed promptly after breaking.

[Translation: CV boot doesn't fit right. Can I seal it up with RTV silicone?]

Thanks!

on your inner cv joint? where is it "leaking" I'm not sure if rtv would hold up on the road.. new axles are always easiest, can change both in about an hour, I think after you get your core refund from AA mine were only around 50 bucks? And the last boots i replaced on a car was 20-25 for each axle..

I agree, new axles are much easier to deal with then trying to replace boots, the time it takes to swap boots, you might as well do axles, they aren't much more and you are guaranteed they will last awhile.

well, that's not what's in question here, I already replaced the boot cause I didn't mind doing a little extra work when the CVs are factory and already have low K, the boot was only broken for a day and now it's fine again, I just wondered if there was some reason why I shouldn't RTV the bad fitting Napa boot on, no rip or tear, new boot.. the clamp napa scrounged up for me that finally fit after their 3rd try broke and grease is coming out of the large end of the boot that has the 3 half moon thingies that fit over the green bearing housing, I'm just gonna top it off with grease, clean the bearing housing and part of the boot that goes over it and RTV it on there then reclamp with much better clamp.....unless I shoudln't .. I just like conformation.

I'm still a little confused where your RTVing, sorry I've had a long day at work. The fitting around the axle doesn't seal probably? and leaks grease? On your movable cv joint on your axle, I just cant imagine RTV's going to hold together.. Go ahead and try. Although I will say this, I had a buddy who had an old POS tractor/lawnmower, little guy. He snapped his axle in half somehow and used jb weld to put it back together.. Although the comparission isn't even close, just thought it was funy.
