Anyone out there with RSR exhaust experience: I want a quiet exhaust...does anyone know how the GT2 compares with the older ExMag. If so, is $420 for the ExMag a good deal?

Thanks,

~B :dsm:

yea i have the older rsr it's the quitest exhuast in my oppion you cant ever here it while crusin it's only loud when you get on it :talon:

Yep, I have the older one and mines quiet too. Since I installed my lightened flywheel it's even quieter just free revving to 3000rpms. Seems to perform well with my evoIII turbo though.

Bought mine at www.turboimport.com They might have the older ones there still.

I have the small tip RS*R with a high-flow cat on my 98 - almost stock quiet until full throttle. As with the other posts, I love it, and also bought it from turboimport.com, along with both my DPs.

I have a Thermal on my 95 autocrosser, which is also surprisingly quiet, even with a 3" DP and no cat. This setup is quieter than the previous Greddy SP(? or possibly Apexi World Sport, I forget now) with stock cat/DP fitted to my 98, with a cat the Thermal is not much louder than the RS*R.

Sounds good. Does anyone know where to buy a true 3" downpipe to match up with the catback that is street legal? All of the dps I have looked at say "for offroad use only."

RRE (RoadRaceEngineering.com) makes matching DPs to order - with/without cats, one-piece like the RS*R/Apexi DP's, or removable cat eliminators.

They are specifically designed to match up to the RS*R cat-back.

I believe the RSR only makes it in a 70mm exhaust piping size for FWD exlipses which is not 3in, it is ~2.75 OD. I also have the older RSR and I like it cause it doesnt drone out everything while cruising at around ~3k rpms. I have the full rsr turbo back and the portion that is before the flex pipe is considerly smaller then the rest of the exhaust to match up with the stock o2 housing size. I think the OD is around 2.5" for that portion of the downpipe.

I have the older ExMag, I think its was the first one to come out. Got the turboback with the cat section elimiated, and it purrs, its deep, and like everyone else, im satisfied esp since its only loud when your on it. 3in all the way back is awesome, cant complain. :thumb:

i have the older rsr exhaust with the big ass tip, i love how it sounds not loud at all but very deep, my opinion it sounds good. sounds good when you get on it to! later

I just picked up this rsr exmag setup from a buddy and it is by far the best exhaust I have ever heard for the gsx. Super quiet at idle and sounds really nice at full throttle. My setup starts with a Megan Racing 2.5 02 housing then to the 3 inch RSR dp and exhaust. I replaced my 2.5 custom dp to hks catback exhuast (2.5 to 3 inch to 4.5 exhaust tip). I have a baby now so I like to keep the car more low-key now a days (I painted the muffler flat black). I'm also running a big 16 and Forced Performance manifold as well.

I miss my RS-R exhaust. I have the Apexi WSII and it's ok, but not he same. I still have the GS-T RS-R muffler for sale if anyone is interested. The RS-R cat back pipe rusted out at the flange which lead me to replace it with the RS-R. The RS-R exhaust is stainless steel though.

Considering the age of the exhaust - I actually don't have any rust on it. The exhaust came on my buddy's gsx. The previous owner replaced the resonators with a straight pipe and also cut the exhaust tip to weld on a 2ft pipe - I guess he was going for the drifter look or something. Being that he took off the resonators - the car is still super quite compared to the hks Hi-power dragger exhuast it replaced. I actually had to remove the half ass black paint job he did on it and cut off a foot off the exhaust tip because it looked ridiculous. After wet sanding the muffler I painted it with Rust-o-leum high temp bbq grill paint as recommended by one of the forums here. I'm happy with the final product; it looks similiar to the exhaust on the IS300's (non ricey but non pee shooter looking too).:thumb:
