I have two choices, royal purple or penn synchromesh?I have 2nd gear grind, works fine at low rpm but will not hit 2nd at high rpm(7200 rpm) and the tranny will grind in 2nd when it is cold out, works good when tranny is hot. Ive read alot of posts but no real answer.do I fill the tranny with JUST synchromesh or do I mix it with the recommended(75w-90w)tranny fluid?Ive done all the shifter mods, new master cylinder, new slave cylinder.the tranny shifts fine under normal driving conditions but not at the drags.what is up with this tranny?

"WHAT A DRAG"LOL

With the price being so high on the royal purple, it seems as if syncromesh would be the way to go. If it fixes or helps the problem, then spend the money on the more expensive stuff if you like. I would hate to see you buy the royal purple and then it does no good.
I run straight syncromesh without mixing it, but I will leave that decision up to you.

Also, where does your clutch let out? Is it close to the floor or midways up in the pedal travel? If it is pretty close to the floor, try adjusting the linkage rod under the dash to see if that helps some. I dont have any experience with the cf clutch in a dsm but I have had them in a couple of other cars that Ive had. I had the same problem you have when I had my probe gt. After a small adjustment, all was well.

I use BM Synchromesh. I've run royal purple before and I can't feel any difference. If anything the BM fluid is better. Cheaper too.

I would personally go with pennzoil syncromesh. That stuff took care of my 3rd gear grind in my probe when I had it. Wonderful stuff for the cheap price on it :thumb: I use to change mine every 10k.

OK...I dont get it....thats two people now that have told me they had the same problem with their"PROBE". Im working on a galant(DSM).im glad to hear the fluids worked on the probe but will the fluids work on my galant?are "FORD" and "DSM" the same product?

I wasnt speaking of the fluid working on my Probe, the clutch adjustment worked on my probe with the cf dual friction clutch. Like I said, Ive never ran a cf clutch in either of my dsm's but did have similar probs with my probe with the same clutch you have.

I run syncromesh in my dsm and it cured my 1-2 and 2-3 grind. I would have to say the mazda(probe) and dsm trannies are 2 totally different parts.

I imagine the internals are made of the same metals though. Why not just go slap down the $15-20 for 3-4 quarts of the syncromesh, and see if its what you were looking for. That's not really a big loss if it isn't, but I'm putting money on it that it's your best option.

Also, run JUST syncromesh, don't mix it.

If you're looking to cure grinding or engagement problems in a manual tranny try using a fluid or additive that INCREASES friction like a synchromesh rather than a slicker synthetic.

When you move your shift lever to engage the next gear the synchros in the tranny need to touch and line up so the synchro ring can engage it. The sooner they spin at the same speed (synchronizing) the quicker the shift. If you use super slick oil it takes longer to synchronize and it's harder to shift.

I use Lucas Oil Modifier in my tranny with great results. It is a "sticky" oil that clings well to the gears and synchros and helps to shift smoother. It works the same in any manual transmission since they all basically operate the same way.

i perfer bg syncroshift, just throwing that option out there, it works very well, RRE caries it also

Hey whats up you are all talking about fluids but if you have a aftermarket clutch did you pull off your clutch fork and take the pivot ball off and stick a washer behind it because i did after putting in a new clutch on my car and it stopped the grind and for fluid i am using valvilan synthetic and it works great no more grinding
