I wanted to do this earlier, so that there could be more detailed reports on each event, but the newbie status did not allow me to post entries. Never the less, here it is.
Introduction - The driver
My name is Dmitriy aka kainam00 pretty much everywhere on the Internet. Despite being largely a computer nerd, I've always had a passion for cars. Growing up in Russia, I've always had my Dad bring home die-cast models of BMWs, Peugeots, and Audis from his various trips abroad. Being incredibly competitive, as soon as I got comfortable behind the wheel, I knew I wanted to race. Not knowing anyone who did it, I did what any normal person would do - hopped on the Internet, found SCCA, and learned about autocross. As any normal person, I also thought I needed some kind of special car to do this, mostly meaning not an automatic 1999 Corolla I drove at the time (this is entirely not true by the way, I wish I started racing a lot earlier IN that Corolla). My first attempt at a race car was a 1991 MR2 Turbo "project". After spending all summer fixing various leaks, rust, and wiring problems, the car could still barely make it down the street, much less TO an autocross. Having learned a good amount from this experience and made some more money over the summer, I decided that this was a waste of time, and a more reliable car was in order. After test driving a bunch of 240sx's and BMW 3-series, I finally found a 2000 Subaru Impreza 2.5RS - that was it! More learning was in order to fix the problems on that car, but on a rainy and cold April morning I drove two hours up to SVR SCCA's first autocross event of the year (which happened to be a school). I was nervous, excited, and barely knew how to drive a manual - but I had a blast and was addicted. Over the next several years I drove that Subaru through hell and back at autocrosses, rallycrosses, TSD rallies, track days, and ice runs, sometimes doing several events per weekend on different sides of the state. I have also taught myself pretty much every sort of maintenance on the car, having taken pretty much everything on it apart.
Being as competitive as I am, and always wanting to learn new things, I always knew that I would outgrow autocross/rallycross. My first attempt at a higher kind of racing came with a purchase of an E36 M3 with the intention of running time trials and eventually road racing. After a summer of track days, however, I realized that my heart was not on the track, but in the woods. I've toyed around with the idea of stage rally and various ways of getting into it. Crewed for a couple people to get a feel for things. This spring/summer I've started seriously searching for a pre-built rally car, and finally bit the bullet when I found out that a buddy of mine was selling his 1g DSM. Having crewed for him before, I decided that it was a good deal, so I went ahead and bought it from him.
