I have a 1g 7bolt. I'd like to know, if I could put on forged 2g rods without machining them.
The reason behind doing this, would be to put cheap, forged 2g rods, with 2g (slightly higher compression ratio) pistons, in my 1g 7 bolt block.
There are 2 reasons I could see it not working. One, rod journals are different sizes, and i would have to machine those, is which case it wouldn't make sense to try this, and two, some difference in clearences between the two 7 bolt engines would dis allow use of the rods.

Can anyone clear this up for me?

There are no problems with what you want to do. I have put 2g rods and pistons in a 1g 7bolt. There are no differences, same crank, same rods, different oil squirters. :thumb:

I was told using forged aftermarket rods and stock pistons becomes tricky. There would be machining involved. If you are just wanting to use stock 2nd gen rods then ignore that..

Connecting rods 6 bolts in 7 bolts crankshaft-engine

Brazil, 6-bolt engines are more durable than 7-bolt crankshaf engines.

The 7 bolt with 70k miles has problems with the rod bearings.

The width of the 7 bolt bearings is approximately 2.5 mm, 0.1" smaller than the 6 bolt bearings.

However, the journal of the 7-bolt crankshaft is the same as that of the 6.

This creates a gap between the bearing and the crankshaft 7 bolts through which oil escapes,

Reducing the pressure between the bearing and the crankshaft.

Machining the rod side 6 bolts to fix in crankshaft 7 bolt

With 6 bolt bearings we have an engine that supports more HP and lasts longer.

Is this made in the USA?
