RockAuto 95' ECU

Hopefully this isn't a painfully obvious question but since RockAuto.com has them readily availble, couldn't one buy from there instead of waiting around in the classifieds? Is it because they aren't OEM ECU's? It looks like an EPROM unit since it says it must be flashed after you buy it. I'm not looking for an EPROM right now but, since they seem to be hard to find...will it work with ECMlink?

You need a EPROM ecu with a socket to use ecmlink bro. Your other option is a flashable black box ecu and something like Evo scan or ceddy mod to flash your tune on it.

Assuming this is how it works: Have '95 OEM EPROM ECU - get it chipped from ECMlink (since it already has a socket to change chips) - done.

So what I was asking is could you order one from RockAuto or an autoparts store for a 95' and use that instead of an OEM ECU ? I assume it comes EPROM (socket on board), so you could use ECMlink with that instead of trying to find a rare expensive OEM EPROM...

I've always wondered about these ecu's. There pretty pricey compared to a used unit. But have always wondered about the EPROM and condition. And also if these are copied from an original (chinese blueprint) but have no software.

It will not come nor do the 95 ecu's come socketed. The way it works is you send your EPROM ecu into link guys and they socket it or you can do it yourself. Then they send it back to you with the ecmlink chip and your oem one in a nice little black case. If the Rockauto ecu is EPROM then you can get it socketed, if its not then you have to do a EPROM conversion which is not cheap. Looking at the Rockauto ecu it says it's flashable so to me that says it won't work with ecmlink. But you should be able to do ceddy mod or get Evo scan. Also $220+ for that ecu is not really worth it if you ask me, you can find them on here for way cheaper. Just wait for someone selling there ecu with link already installed those are the best deals.

My bad, I thought EPROM's already had a socket and it was a matter of swapping the stock chip with dsmlink's chip. I just read the tuners guide on how to socket your own board.

As for RockAuto, I thought 'flashable' was what you want and that it indicates it's eprom though?

Flashable just means the chip inside is writeable and they are very different than the EPROM style. So basically to tune on a EPROM ecu you need to swap chips to one that is writeable like ecmlink or the old ecu+. To tune on a flashable ecu you only need to rewrite the ecu with a computer there is nothing taken out and swapped. Make more sense bro. Flashable is what you want to run something like ceddy mod or Evo scan.
