Here's a link to my old thread
http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/dead-end-threads/317241-lookin-talon-need-some-advise.html

Pretty much what happened was i posted looking for information. I obviously stated in the original post that i wasn't really even into drag racing...in short, what i run at the strip doesn't mean sh*t to me. AutoX, road racing, any other type of racing where you have to turn...thats what i'm into...
--TO THE ADMIN--so when everyone else on the thread goes off bench racing about running 10's don't lock/move my thread...just delete their posts...

so...lets try this again and NO BENCH RACING...just looking for your guy's proven setups FOR AUTO-X or even mild street strip...

It was locked by Defiant because the course of the thread was steering far off course. Open a thread, ask a specific question without mentioning what to do to add what amount of HP.

because the last thread turned into bench racing. all this talk about running 10's and i don't even like drag racing. read the whole post...i still want to know what the first thread stated. Just without all the heresay about drag racing. Thats why i'm trying agian...hopefully it won't turn into my last thread otherwise i'm just going to give up on this forum all together.

I already read those...really good information.

I'm looking for like specific setups that are proven at the track that other people do or have run.

thanks

Look at Ludachris' (forum founder) setup. His car is made to be an all out road racer. Find his profile and look at the parts list. Also if you had any specific questions I am sure he wouldn't mind answering them in a PM.

Looking through the Road Course & Autocross Forums on this board would probably be a good area to start.

Road Course & Autocross - DSM Forums

After you've done some research, then try asking more specific question. When you just ask a big general question, things tend to get off track &/or locked.

Also when your posting a thread make sure the title has something to do with what your asking. The current title of this thread makes it completely usless in the future if someone is trying to search for info that may be contained in this thread.

Thanks Mod. The original intent of the first post was to get people opinions on a 1g talon road racer and some good setups and common problems. So...what are common problems that aren't basic maintenance that the 1g specifically encounter during a road racing season?

I know this thread is a bit older. But I saw no one has really answered you back with anything. Here are a few things I see all the time with DSM's and road racing that you may find helpfull.

Understeering - Well this is a very common one amongst DSMers I am sure. If you do not have the ability to adjsut ride height, spring rate etc. You may want to consider doing some of the following that I have seen to make a difference.

Adjust front and rear tire pressures. I know it may not seem like much, but effectivley lowering your front tire pressure is like softening your front spring rate (to a certian degree). Raising tire pressure does just the opposite. It is like stiffening your spring rates. So if you lower your front pressures and raise your rear pressures, you will get less traction in the rear and force the car to rotate more. In theory of course, but I must say I have seen it and felt it work first hand.

You also may want to try and undo your front sway bar (if applicable). The car may not react as quickly as normal, but the front end will not "push" out or understeer as bad.

Oversteering - Contrary to popular belief, you can make DSMs oversterer as well. This in affect is when the rear of the car seems to always want to come around on you in turns.

Again, you can start by adjusting your tire pressures the opposite way as you did in the understeer scenario. Raise the fron pressure and lower the rear pressure. In effect, you are rasing the rate of the suspension in the front causing the front of the car to "push" out a bit more than it currently is. Lowering the rear pressure will cuse the rear end to have more tire patch on the track thus giving it more grip to not let it "come around" on you.

These are jsut a few things I personally have experienced at the track before in my car. Some have been fixed, others...Well, lets just say its a work in progess on those. There are those on here that may not agree with what I have posted here. But I have done nothing more than post exepriences as I said I have been through and what I did to correct them. I hope more people will start to add to this thread and their setups.

Some rules of thumb to keep in your mind on tire pressures:

Rasing tire pressure will react as stiffening your suspension and will cause that particular tire to react slower, causing more of a "push/understeer' or have less grip.

Lowering tire pressures will react as softening your suspension and will cause the tire to have more patch on the surface and increase your grip.
