So I turn on my car after coming out of Auto-Zone. Idle starts f'ing up. surges up to about 1200 rpms then drops to 500-600 then back up and back down again. So I pull outta the parking lot and in 2nd gear my car starts to stutter horribly. It feels like it bucks when I get on it - at about 4k rpms theres a feeling like the car is pulling back - like as if I downshifted to slow the car down, and then the picks up again and jerks violently. Any ideas? This car is starting to p!ss me off!

:talon:

Thanks King Milo.. I will be picking one up from the junk yard today.. Maybe It will help who knows... I made another post in the Problem diagnosis forum so maybe these ideas and those combined will grant a solution.

May want to check the fuel filter/fuel pump, sounds like a fuel flow problem. Do you have EGT or a/f gauge? or access to a ecu datalogger? If so, you could learn alot about what is causing the problem.

i just bought a fuel filter and pcv valve, im gonna change them in the morning.

First I had NGKs.. Changed to Bosch - no difference. Changed fuel filter - no difference. Changed PCV valve - no difference. Changed TPS - no difference

Running out of ideas here..

Ok so I did more searching, and I think my problem could be my cam angle sensor. I'm goint ot the junkyard in a few to grab another one - I have one problem - How do I know when I have cylinder 1 a TDC

No offense, but you do have a shop/service manual of some kind as this (and the CAS testing and re/re) would be clearly illustrated

Not yet, I got this car in sept.-oct. jus haven't bought one yet... There isn't a vfaq so If someone could just extend the knowledge if they have the manual that would be a big help.

Definitely spend $15 at any AutoZone/Pepboys to get the Chiltons/Haynes manual as will give you the methods to test the CAS in case it's not at fault (they can be pricey parts even used).

If it's DOHC then can ref this VFAQ on timing belt replacement or just stick a long screwdriver in the #1 spark plug hole and (with the car in neutral) and the top timing cover removed exposign the cam gears, rotate the crank pully with a 1.2" breaker bar until the screw driver is at the peak of it's travel AND the two cam gears marks are facing each other :dsm:

Couldnt find a CAS at the junkyard today.. I'm thinking of just selling the d@mn car. :notgood: I'm getting an CEL now whenever I'm not pressing the gas. I found this sensor unplugged behind the intake manifold also. I dont know what it is for or if it could be causing my problem but I can't find where to plug it back up either.

here the sensor:

Also no shops around here have the obd1 adapter plug to plug into my diagnostic port to give me the code for the light I'm getting. So I have to wait until I can buy a logger to figure this thing out. In the mood im in I want to just sell it.

Trace the plug back as far as you can and see where it terminates (either the main harness at the firewall or a sensor: throttlebody, CAS.. other).

To back track a little, you've done nothing at all to the car (not even change the plugs) from when the car was working fine till now? Not even a missing hour after a late night of drinking with tools in hand ;) :dsm:

I have changed the wires not even 1k miles ago, changed the plugs yesterday, changed the tps yesterday, changed the pcv valve, fuel filter, even the airflow sensor all yesterday. Cleaned up the tb. checked all vacuum lines. All since the problem began.

The problem with counting pulses is the CEL does not come on immediatly it takes a while but im going outside to try now.

No pulse to check the light. The light stays on until the end of that beeping sound you hear when the key is in the on position. but then it goes out. doesn't blink at all. I was thinking it could mean the ecu but that seems normal how the light goes out. Am I wrong? After I start the car the light comes back on about 30 seconds later.

Went to radio shack.. built a little buzzer tool. It decodes to TPS. I JUST changed that but the one I got came off of a 1.8 car. Are they the same?

Man, I hope you get that figured out, I even got the same plug unhooked that you do and dont have a clue where it goes but right now Im just trying to get the car running. I was gonna get that ISC sensor today and see if that helped but never got a chance so it'll be sometime next week before im off again to do it, if anyone finds a solution, that would save me a 1hr trip ha ha. Ill keep searching and testing different things and tell you if I get it fixed though.

Buying all this little stuff for the car here and there is really breaking the bank.. I may have to park my car a couple days and wait on a multimeter. (40 bucks at radioshack?)

I'm more certain its the TPS that is off so bad its causing this problem, I tried to adjust it a little by hand and got my car to rev a little higher than usual (also you can't argue with the code im getting)- I will keep you guys posted!
