So I turn on my car after coming out of Auto-Zone. Idle starts f'ing up. surges up to about 1200 rpms then drops to 500-600 then back up and back down again. So I pull outta the parking lot and in 2nd gear my car starts to stutter horribly. It feels like it bucks when I get on it - at about 4k rpms theres a feeling like the car is pulling back - like as if I downshifted to slow the car down, and then the picks up again and jerks violently. Any ideas? This car is starting to p!ss me off!

:talon:

I'd first make sure that all the intake connections are secure. Although an NT, if the connector to the MAF was loose it would cause a rich condition.

May also want to pull the plugs to see what condition they are :dsm:

I checked the intake sensor everythings's tight there.
I just changed the plugs and wires recently. 600 or so miles ago.

Any other Ideas?

check to see if you have a loose vacum line, i know you have a nt but on the turbo cars a loose vacum line can cause the car to surge.

I'm beginning to think I have bad gas in my car. When I had my 1.8 I bought gas from a Getty around the corner from my mom's, and I had a similar problem. WELL not thinking I put the same gas in my 2.0. In the 1.8 I just put a different brand gas in of a higher octane along with the crappy gas from before and that mixture helped. Hopefully this is the case and I just need better gas.

Nothing's loose under the hood.

So did anyone ever have this problem with gas?

Sure, but it was on an outboard motor. Nevertheless the same principles apply so changing your gas may not be a bad idea.

I'd also make sure that all of your injector connections are in good shape and that nothing's unplugged.

I had the EXACT same problem and found that my ISC was bad, did your check engine light come on and off randomly (mine did) I havent replaced it yet so I cant say if that would be the only problem but its worth checking, Also does anyone know if a ISC sensor for a dodge stealth will work on these cars, Ive got two sitting about an hour away at a shop thats working on my Stealth and I know they both work great.

Update: I ran out all the gas that was in the car. Put in some premium and the problem persists. I'm beginning to think it may be the ISC as king milo stated. Unfortunately im going to have to wait until tuesday to go grab one from a junk yard. Hopefully that will be the fix to this problem. Any more ideas would be appreciatted! Thanks Guys!

bad ISCs are a common problem in aging 1g N/Ts , clean the TB thoroughly while your at it (the Oil gunk from the VC gunks up your ISC over time)

Probly your isc, bad isc = hard starting, idle surging, bucking when releasing throttle. Try cleaning up your tb first and ohm test your isc.

What do I need for an ohm test? I got the ISC off and it looks good to me but I know I can't go by looks. The TB has alot of gunk on it though!

I'm thinking its not my ISC. I been searching the forums and all the people who have had idle issues due to the ISc did not have revving issues.

To explain in more detail: When I rev out a gear lets say 2nd for example. The car/motor jerks and the car wont accelarate past this rpm (usually around 4.5k rpms). If I go less than 40-50% throttle however the will rev higher. Soon as I get on it the car will exhibit this probelm. Feels like I'm downshifting to slow down.

Anybody with an idea or that has had this same problem please help me out as I need to get my car running soon.

I'm moving it here for maybe a better response:

update on the problem : I can smell alot of fuel in my exhuast also. and while it idles the exhuast stuppers and the exhuast gases do not come out smoothly.

I just changed my wires and plugs so I doubt that would be my problem. How would compression affect my car in this way?

Well, Im going to pick up my replacement ISC thursday so I'll let you know if that helps me out, If it doesnt work Im going to try what mitsured suggested, Im having the same problems and the ISC was the only thing I could find wrong other than a throttle body that needed some serious cleaning.

No way, he's an hour away. :D

yesItsdsm, 1.8 or 2.0? Which brand of plug and what gap? Are you 100% sure the wires are in correct order? Besides compression, I would also check the ECU for capcitor leaks.

I have a 2.0, It does feel like fuel cut. Other things I was thinking was clogged cat? bad fuel filter?

How do I check the ECU?
