resurfacing pressure plate?

Pressure plates are usually regarded as discardable. I've not heard of one being resurfaced. If it shows heat scoring, get rid of it. If it's just rust, sandpaper's fine. It'll clean itself off in the first day, just like rusty brakes.

It is possible but most shops won't do that kind of work. I had my ACT 2600lb resurfaced but I wouldn't trust just any shop to do it. They must shim it properly to make up for the lost material.

Egad, what kind of a cut did they take off it? A surface cleanup shouldn't affect the clamping force.

I talked to ACT's tech department. They don't recommend doing it but did say you can remove up to .012" of material from the pressure plate. ACT said you can get away with that much since a street disk is meatier than a puck-type disk. Most local machines wouldn't touch it without the right type of equipment. A magnetic table of some sort is needed to hold the pressure plate in place while it's resurfaced. I decided to buy a new pressure plate after my old one wore from the inside-out. It caused my clutch to slip since it was only clamping on the outer third of the disk.
