Resonator or not?

Im gettin a 3" pressbent catback made at a local muffler shop w/ a dragger style muffler. I want my car kinda loud but not obnoxious like a honda. So should i go with a resonator or not?

Get a job?, First on you have an N/T, there for...what the #### do you know?, removing the cat is quite popular with turbo DSM's, but you wouldnt know that. I also live in Canada, it isnt illegal to remove it here. A test-pipe/straight pipe will give you more power u moron. goback to the N/T forums GG :laugh:

Just because I drive a NT doesnt mean I dont know alot. I have full true exhaust plus some, and over time I've learned its worthless trying to get what I want from this motor unless I actually build it internally. I've actually learned alot from this site in the past year, I'm in the process of selling my NT for a turbo model thank you

the original question was asking about the Resonator, not the cat, so you were mistaken. Go back to school and learn to read. And it is spelled SENSE, not sence.

#### you NT guys dont know shit do you, WE dont have resonators, we have a Cat and a muffler. I read "resonator" and asumed he ment cat since DSM's dont have resonators...
No1 puts a resonator on an aftermaket exhaust, you usually try and remove the restriction, not add it.



just save yourselfs the embasasment from the lack of knowledge and dont type.

Actually my car does have a resonator. Or it has something on the exhaust that looks just like one. And plus when I went to get the estimate for the exhaust they looked under the car and asked if i wanted to keep the resonator or not.

Wow, im glad people like you join the board Almost every car somes with a stock resonator, they come in fifferent shapes and forms. If you look around at aftermarket exhausts not only for dsm's but others they sometimes put aftermarket resonators in them to, not everyone likes their exhaust loud. Oh, and resonators arent restrictive. Internally theyre like a straight through ricer muffler

Check out Jason Smithey's dyno run video. Six hundred and twelve f###in' wheel horse power, baby. Pretty sweet, right? Personally I'd like to see him do it without the bottle, but we'll save that debate for another thread. Did you notice his car doesn't sound like some sixteen year olds Civic? His web site doesn't state whether or not he uses a resonator. The point is that your ride doesn't have to be [that] loud in order to be fast. If you decide to go with the resonator, I'm sure you'll never know it's there. However, if you'd rather not use one and top off with a straight through muffler, you'll be reminded of your decision every time you drive by a building and hear that high pitched farting sound escorting your poor, tortured DSM.

There is your problem in bold in your original post. Your exhaust is your biggest investment. Do it right, do it once.

my car also had a resonator but I took it off with my new exhaust and now I wish I hadn't.

thats cause NT cars sound ricy with exhaust,turbo cars sound better and dont have the riciness and dont need a resonator. IMO
