So, I finally got around to swapping in the 95 eprom ecu (with chip from dsmchips) the other day.

I had been tuning with a WBO2, SAFC-II, and logger, so I turned all the settings on my SAFC-II down to 0. Should be like running with no SAFC-II correction since the chip was burned to take advantage of my setup.

Ran well for the test drive. Drove to work this morning and got about 18 miles with no problems. Then, out of the blue, it's like my accellerator doesn't work. No matter how much gas I give, she just keeps slowing down. I pretty much coast to the side of the road and let it idle. That's when I see my WBO2 says rich. CEL comes on, but I didn't have my logger with me. Turned the car off and tried to start it 2x. Same result. Rich. Car won't move. Shut down again and wait...trying to think of who can come get me without totally giving me crap about my car...again. Try one more start, and she starts right up with no problems. Drove to work under normal performance, although, I wasn't pushing it at all.

Got in the car to go home. Drive 20 miles with no problems, then the same thing as the morning. Coast to the side of the road, hit the rummble strips and she's back to normal. Weird. Didn't even have to shut the car off this time.

Got home and pulled the P0100 code. So I searched and read. Thinking there's a loose connection somewhere. The one under the hood seems easy enough to check. Too dark/cold to do it now.

In case that's not it, can someone tell me what wire/pin on the ecu is for the MAF?

Getting the old ecu out and the new one in was a pretty tight fit, and I wouldn't be surprised if I somehow pulled a wire out. I wouldn't have to re-wire the SAFC-II or remove it, right? Or is there a difference between wiring the SAFC-II up to a 97 ecu and a 95 ecu?

if anyone thinks it could be something else, let me know.

Thanks in advance for the help.

No problems on the commute to and from work yesterday and no problems on the way to work today.

All I've done is disconnect and reconnect the connector for the MAS. could that be all it was? A poor connection? Or is this a sign that I should be shopping for a replacement 2G MAS?

OK- so no problems since my last post...until last night. On the way home from work, I'm in the left lane with a semi bearing down on me when the car does this again. Wideband says rich, and the accelerator does nothing. I manage to coast over to the shoulder without causing an accident. Turn the car off and restart twice with no change. This is when I notice that the display on my SAFC II isn't working. The dial is lit, but no display. Pop the hood, disconnect/reconnect the MAF. Restart the car, no change. Let the car sit for another 5 minutes, and she starts up fine. SAFC II display is back on. CEL (P0100) is thrown. Drive home and shut her off. Clear the code when I started her this morning. No problem on the drive to work.

Is the SAFC display thing an indication that I loosened a connection when I installed the new ECU? There's no SAFC wiring change I needed to make when I went from a 97 ECU to a 95, right? The SAFC is really not being used now anyway. I have a chip in the ECU. The SAFC is set to all zeros.

You should cheak ## safcll conection to the ECU harness. My car did that one time i had a bad connection somewhere with the safc and my car ran like shyt and the display was off, when it happened to me i went down to the wire and wiggles them around and it ran fine, so i knew it was one of the wires so i just redid all the connectoin to the harness and never happened to me again.

Sounds like a loose connection somewhere based on the problem going away after hitting the rumble strips. Typically a blank display on the SAFC is caused by the harness coming loose inside the controller. Pull the back off the SAFC and make sure the harness is still attached.

I would also check all the wires you tapped at the ECU. You did solder all your connections, right. ;)

So, the problem has not come back. I disconnected the SAFC II. Actually, the guy who installed it had used some quick connects so all I had to do was swap a couple connections to bypass the SAFC without tearing it out. I must've loosened up a connection when I swapped the ECU.
